Sr. Kubernetes Platform Engineer

Silicon Labs in Austin, Texas is seeking a motivated Sr. Kubernetes Platform Engineer to help define, build, operate, and lifecycle-manage the infrastructure, tools, and platforms required for our organization to operate at scale. This role spans both on-premises and cloud environments, with responsibilities across Kubernetes platforms, CI/CD, identity, observability, cost management, and developer enablement. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience owning CNCF and open-source infrastructure in production, including upgrades, troubleshooting, automation, and long-term maintainability. This is an engineering ownership role, not a support-escalation role; success requires the ability to understand, operate, and improve the platforms we depend on while collaborating closely with software and IT teams and supporting AI/ML initiatives.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

· Collaboration: Building productive relationships and generously sharing expertise via presentations and training sessions.

· Documentation: Creating and maintaining effective documentation and written communications.

· Automation: Enhancing team productivity by identifying opportunities to automate and eliminate waste in new and existing processes.

· Infrastructure Lifecycle Management: Designing, building, operating, upgrading, and retiring infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments, with attention to reliability, security, cost, maintainability, and developer productivity.

· Kubernetes Platform Ownership: Operating and evolving Kubernetes-based platforms and supporting technologies, including cluster lifecycle, networking, ingress, storage, policy, virtualization, secrets, identity, observability, and cost visibility.

· CNCF and Open-Source Stewardship: Owning and maintaining CNCF and open-source platforms in production, including troubleshooting, upgrades, automation, documentation, and internal enablement. Candidates should be comfortable operating systems where internal expertise is required rather than relying primarily on vendor support.

· Developer Experience: Improving software developer experience and productivity by reducing friction and automating testing and deployments.

· CI/CD Pipelines: Designing, developing, and maintaining CI/CD and GitOps pipelines for software and infrastructure.

· Security, Identity, and Policy Automation: Supporting secure platform operations through policy enforcement, secrets management, workload identity, OIDC integrations, and automated governance.

· Observability: Building and operating observability platforms for metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and service health using modern cloud-native tooling.

· AI/ML Integration: Working with software teams to support development and implementation of AI/ML infrastructure and services.

· Cost Efficiency: Reducing waste and cutting costs in cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure.

Skills and Qualifications Desired:

· Education: Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent training.

· Experience: 5+ years in software development, DevOps, Kubernetes and Cloud-Native Platforms engineering, or a related field.

· Hybrid Infrastructure Lifecycle: Experience managing infrastructure lifecycle across on-premises data centers and public cloud, including provisioning, upgrades, patching, scaling, decommissioning, and operational automation.

· Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, etc.; AWS certifications are a plus.

· Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Salt, Chef, or similar infrastructure automation tools.

· Programming Languages: Proficiency in at least one language, preferably Go, Python, Groovy, or Java.

· System Administration: Proficiency in Linux, Windows, and macOS system administration; Talos Linux experience is a plus.

· Scripting: *Nix shell and PowerShell scripting experience.

· Kubernetes and Cloud-Native Platforms: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and ecosystem technologies such as Talos Linux, Cilium, Gateway API, CSI, KubeVirt, Kyverno, Helm, and Kustomize.

· CI/CD, GitOps, and Artifact Management: Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, Artifactory, and GitOps-based deployment workflows.

· Secrets, Identity, and Access Management: Experience with Vault, External Secrets Operator, OIDC, Keycloak, Okta, workload identity, and secrets lifecycle management.

· Observability: Experience operating observability stacks using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, and OpenTelemetry.

· Cloud Cost Management: Experience with cloud and Kubernetes cost visibility, optimization, and tools such as OpenCost.

· Open Source Operations: Demonstrated ability to operate, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain open-source infrastructure platforms in production.

· Network Administration: Firewalls, ACLs, and core networking concepts including switching, routing, DNS, ingress, and troubleshooting.

· AI/ML Experience: Familiarity with AI and ML frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.

· Certifications: CNCF Kubernetes certifications such as CKA, CKAD, or CKS are a plus.

The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $124,600 - $231,400 USD. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, geographic location where work will be performed and applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, equity package and a comprehensive benefits package.
