Chemours is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to join our engineering team. In this role, you will apply your academic training to real-world challenges by supporting equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and process improvement initiatives across our plant operations.
You will work alongside experienced engineers to learn the fundamentals of mechanical systems in an industrial environment, contribute to technical documentation and troubleshooting, and participate in safety and compliance activities. This is an excellent opportunity to launch your career, gain hands-on experience with diverse equipment, and develop a solid foundation in mechanical engineering best practices while contributing to plant safety, efficiency, and performance.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with daily monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, piping, and heat exchangers.
Support engineering projects, including equipment upgrades, repairs, and installations under the guidance of senior engineers.
Prepare and update technical documentation such as P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and maintenance procedures.
Participate in safety inspections, audits, and compliance activities to ensure reliable and safe operation of plant assets.
Collect and analyze equipment performance data to support reliability improvement and preventive maintenance programs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, EH&S) to achieve plant objectives and resolve technical issues.
The following is required for this role:
Pursuit of Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including rotating equipment, piping, or pressure vessels, as demonstrated through coursework or academic projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for technical documentation and data analysis.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
The following is preferred for this role:
Internship, co-op, or academic project experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with mechanical drafting or modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Exposure to preventive or predictive maintenance concepts, either through coursework or training.
Participation in student engineering organizations (e.g., ASME) or engineering competitions.
Experience working on multidisciplinary project teams or group assignments.
Demonstrated initiative in learning new technical skills, software, or engineering concepts.
