CDL Driver / Commercial Delivery Specialist
Position Summary
We are seeking a safety-focused, customer-oriented CDL Driver to support commercial and residential construction projects through the timely delivery of building materials and equipment. This position requires experience operating commercial vehicles and material handling equipment while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
The ideal candidate has experience delivering to active construction sites, operating equipment such as Moffett forklifts, SkyTrak telehandlers, flatbed trucks, and practicing safe material handling procedures in demanding jobsite environments.
Essential Responsibilities
Transportation & Delivery
- Safely transport building materials, products, and equipment to customer locations and commercial jobsites.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT and company requirements.
- Verify load accuracy and ensure proper securement of materials prior to departure.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation and obtain customer signatures when required.
- Communicate with dispatch and branch personnel regarding delivery status, route delays, and jobsite conditions.
- Represent the company professionally during all customer interactions.
Equipment Operation
- Operate Class A or Class B commercial vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Load, unload, and place materials utilizing:
- Moffett truck-mounted forklifts
- SkyTrak telehandlers
- Flatbed trucks
- Forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Perform daily inspections of assigned equipment and report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Safely secure loads using straps, chains, binders, and tie-down systems.
Jobsite Support
- Deliver materials to active commercial construction sites.
- Assess jobsite conditions and identify safety hazards before unloading.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, contractors, and customers to ensure accurate placement of materials.
- Follow all PPE and site-specific safety requirements.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials, including touch-freight responsibilities when necessary.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety standards.
- Maintain a valid CDL and acceptable driving record.
- Ensure compliance with all vehicle inspection, maintenance, and reporting requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Class A CDL (Class B may be considered depending on business needs).
- Minimum 1 year of verifiable commercial driving experience.
- Clean driving record and ability to meet DOT requirements.
- Experience operating flatbed trucks and securing loads.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move building materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred
- Commercial construction jobsite experience.
- Experience operating:
- Moffett truck-mounted forklifts
- SkyTrak telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Flatbed delivery equipment
- Experience delivering insulation, roofing, lumber, drywall, or other building materials.
- Familiarity with construction site safety protocols and contractor interactions.
- Experience navigating active commercial construction environments.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials up to 75 pounds.
- Climbing on and off trucks and equipment.
- Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and active construction sites.
