Manages and maintains records of jobs performed, including a record of time and materials spent on each job. Inspect units repaired to ensure all necessary work has been performed in a timely manner. Leads and trains, as necessary, team members in the performance of their work. Performs moderately difficult repairs on chainsaws, Sawzall’s, generators and various other equipment. Dismantles, cleans and inspects parts for excessive wear or other defects, replacing defective parts including, but not limited to, gears, bushings, gear shafts bolts, washers, springs, pins, rods, plates, brackets and small castings, fuses, sockets, receptacles, fixtures, reflectors, globes, etc. Scrapes, files, fits and installs bushings, bearings, pins, bolts and discs and adjusts diaphragms. Laps or grinds valve seats, discs, or other contact surfaces to obtain water or airtight fits. Measures, cuts, threads, fits and installs pipes to hydraulically or pneumatically operated units. Cuts out defective sections of hose, installs couplings, threads or rethreads couplings and other fittings, solders or welds holes or breaks in metal containers and fittings, tests equipment to be sure that it is water or airtight and that moving or adjustable parts work freely. Drives a vehicle between job locations and load/unload materials and equipment. Other related duties as required.
Completion of High school or G.E.D., preferably with course work in shop or an apprenticeship in the mechanical trades. Three (3) years of experience repairing and assembling machine and equipment parts and accessories. Valid State of Michigan Driver’s license.

- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
This is a Temporary Administrative Special Services (TASS) position.
This Appointment Term is based on availability of grant funds.
The continuation of this role depends on the availability of ongoing funding.
Employment beyond the current grant period is not guaranteed and will be based on the renewal of funding.
Physical Requirements:
- Engaging in light to strenuous physical activity, which may include operating machinery, motor vehicles, standing/walking, lifting heavy objects, operating machinery and using powered tools for an extended period.
- Ability to move about and ascend/descend (e.g., stairs, ladders, etc.)
- Able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to conditions which may include fumes, extreme heat and cold, wetness, loud noise, dust, inclement weather, and hazardous chemicals.
- Employees are required to wear appropriate safety equipment and attire in accordance with City, State, Federal and Departmental safety regulations, rules and policies.
