The Compliance and Publication Coordinator provides professional and technical support for the safe operations of the assigned facility and correctional policies and procedures according to the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) philosophy. Designs, develops, and applies principles of strategic planning to ensure compliance with operational standards. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, legal actions, and orders, which requires strong working relationships with partners; provide a broad range of activities, including interpreting applications of laws, regulations, Colorado Code of Penal Discipline (COPD), and Compliance standards.

This position serves as the facility policy coordinator and plans, organizes and directs the facility self-inspection program. Responsibilities include monitoring facility policies to ensure adherence to compliance standards, conducting audits of facility operations through analysis and visual inspection to compare practice to facility policy; and preparing results and making recommendations to the administrative head. Collects, compiles, drafts, and analyzes information, collaborates with supervisors and facility management teams, and recommends plans of action to meet compliance standards. Reviews, proposes changes and makes revisions to policy and procedure. Publishes, updates, and distributes policy updates and compliance standards updates on behalf of the administrative head.

Primary job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Functions as policy coordinator by verifying and identifying facility the need for operational memorandum meetings, setting committee reviews with management, publishing and distributing draft and final documents;

  • Ensures compliance with standards, departmental regulations and applicable State and federal laws within these documents;

  • Speaks of the importance of standard compliance in facility policy decisions;

  • Manages facilities policies and procedures by reviewing, revising and recommending changes to management, CDOC directives, and facility standard policy guidelines and applicable laws;

  • Receives new departmental regulations, distributes to management team and other offices of record; coordinates staff to write procedures to implement regulations into practice at the facility level;

  • Audits correctional facility operations to determine compliance with standards, departmental regulations, facility procedures and applicable laws;

  • Interpret and explain facility operations policies, producures, standards, and Administrative Regulations (AR');
  • Exchanging information and/or guiding to resolve issues with policies, procedure, standards, and Administrative Regulations; 
  • Collect, evaluates, and validates information from work units to provide compliance with standards and policy by verifying accuracy of information and utilizes supporting documentation to validate compliance with each compliance standard; 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position will be required to work additional hours to ensure safe and secure operations and will be required to travel to facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned in analyzing operating methods, procedures, policies and preparing reports; or managing and coordinating an accreditation, auditing, life safety and/or correctional program(s). (any work experience less than full time will be prorated) 


Or

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience within a State of Colorado classified position;
  • Experience in a correctional environment;
  • Experience with policy drafting, review, recommendations, and development for governmental, correctional, and/or organizational entity;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications working in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State guidelines to ensure compliance with policy development;
  • Experience interpreting complex rules, regulations, and standards and applying the knowledge to specific situations;
  • Experience creating, gathering, or interpreting agency accreditation file documentation;
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and training staff;
  • Experience as an auditor.
