What You Will Do

  • Execute complex structural analysis via hand calculations, 2D and 3D finite element modeling, using the latest P&W Engineering Standard Work, analytical tools, and engineering judgement.

  • Provide oversight and technical guidance for less experienced engineers and outsourced tasks.

  • Perform structural analysis and provide analytical support through all design phases and provide support to manufacturing and operational services.

  • Use finite element and classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction, damage tolerance, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses.

  • Support production and in-service field investigations.

  • Document analysis and present results and associated recommendation to integrated product teams, management, and customers.

  • Participate on multi-discipline integrated product teams as the structures expert, providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for performance, cost, schedule, and other requirements.

  • Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected.

  • Attend and have participation in group meetings, teleconferences and/or training required.

  • Based on business needs, the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company.

  • Actively participate in initiatives for continuous improvement using CORE tools and support AS9100 efforts.

  • Support structures community initiatives.

  • Travel is up to 10%.

  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Civil Engineering

  • 8 years of experience in engineering or an Advanced degree with 5 years of engineering experience

  • 4 years of experience with structural analysis

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Experience working in the Aerospace Industry

  • Previous gas turbine experience

  • Team oriented and cultural awareness

  • Experience with ANSYS, Workbench, NX, CAD and FEA.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills using FEM for stress/deflection, vibration, and performing LCF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics, Strength, Buckling or Kinematics analyses.

  • Experience managing projects or processes.

  • Experience mentoring and coaching mid-level engineers.

  • Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products.
