Description
The Global Credit Risk department sets the credit risk strategy, ensuring that ING’s lending practices are in line with its risk tolerance and regulatory requirements and managing credit restructuring from a global and central point. Global Credit Risk plays a critical role via its credit risk policies, credit risk appetite setting and credit risk portfolio management in protecting the bank from losses due to defaults or economic downturns.
Credit Risk WB Portfolio Management
You will be part of the newly created Wholesale Banking Portfolio Management team within Global Credit Risk. The team is responsible for overseeing credit risk performance across ING’s WB network, including sector-specific portfolios. It collaborates closely with various internal and external stakeholders and is responsible for functional oversight of regional credit risk teams. As WB Portfolio Management Expert I, you will operate as a senior contributor, supporting strategic initiatives and helping shape the team’s portfolio management and governance agenda.
Job description
At ING, we are committed to building a future-fit credit risk organisation that enables safe, scalable growth across our global Wholesale Banking portfolio. As a WB Portfolio Management Expert I, you will contribute to the oversight and challenge of credit risk performance across WB sectors and geographies. You will support the development of a holistic view of the Wholesale Banking portfolio, ensuring that credit risk remains within appetite, aligned with ING’s strategic direction and with supervisory expectations.
This role combines analytical depth with stakeholder engagement. You will monitor credit risk metrics, support portfolio reviews, and contribute to global forums such as Global Portfolio Management Committees (PomCos) and the WB Sector Outlook. You will also provide input to the Credit Risk Frameworks & Control team, contributing to consistent implementation and embedding of credit risk frameworks, policies, and controls across geographies.
Specific Tasks and Responsibilities
As a WB Portfolio Management Expert I in Global Credit Risk, you will:
Support the prudent and proactive management of the credit risk in the WB loan portfolio in line with developed EWS standards, including early detection of potentially deteriorating credit worthiness in (parts of) the WB loan portfolio, initiation of follow-up actions and timely escalation via relevant committees/forums.
Challenge the credit risk performance of the global WB loan portfolio, ensuring adherence to risk appetite and proactively identifying emerging risks across sectors and geographies.
Participate in forums such as Global Portfolio Management Committees (PomCos) and the WB Sector Outlook, driving effective second-line challenge, surfacing insights, and supporting decision-making on watchlist and restructuring cases.
Provide expert input and guidance to the Credit Risk Frameworks & Control team and WB locations.
Actively build relationships with key stakeholders such as the regional credit risk teams in WB locations, Wholesale Banking front office (i.e. sector teams, Portfolio Management) and other WB risk functions (i.e. WB TA&C).
Support regulatory and audit engagements by preparing relevant documentation and analysis.
Specific Knowledge and Experience
We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious, keep learning, and take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to grow into an even more awesome version of yourself.
To thrive in this role, you bring:
A Master’s degree and 10-15 years of experience in credit risk.
Strong credit expertise and understanding of risk management processes and good understanding of WB sector and products.
Proven track record of ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment and successfully drive and implement change in the way of working in an international context.
