General Scope:


The Asset Engineer / Asset Manager is responsible for managing the lifecycle, reliability, utilization, and overall performance of company-owned operational assets and equipment. This role works closely with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Finance, and regional leadership to ensure assets are properly maintained, tracked, deployed, and replaced to support safe and efficient field operations.

The position is responsible for developing asset management strategies, evaluating equipment performance and maintenance trends, supporting capital planning, and identifying opportunities to improve asset reliability, utilization, and total cost of ownership.


Key Expectations:

Asset Management & Utilization

  • Manage the lifecycle of operational assets from acquisition through deployment, maintenance, repair, and retirement.
  • Monitor asset condition, utilization, downtime, maintenance history, and overall performance.
  • Develop and maintain preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for critical equipment.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and work with Operations and Maintenance to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Recommend repair, rebuild, replacement, or retirement of assets based on performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Maintain accurate asset records, including location, status, ownership, equipment specifications, and maintenance history.
  • Monitor equipment utilization across regions and identify underutilized or overutilized assets.
  • Coordinate with regional leadership to improve asset allocation and reduce unnecessary rentals or equipment purchases.
  • Support movement and transfer of equipment between locations based on operational needs.
  • Ensure asset movements and changes in status are accurately documented in company systems.

Maintenance & Operations Support

  • Work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure equipment is available and ready for scheduled work.
  • Review maintenance schedules, repair needs, inspections, and outstanding equipment issues.
  • Assist with prioritizing repairs based on operational needs, equipment criticality, and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate maintenance practices and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Support field and shop teams with technical troubleshooting and equipment-related concerns.

Capital Planning & Cost Management

  • Assist with annual capital expenditure planning for new equipment, replacements, rebuilds, and major repairs.
  • Develop recommendations using equipment condition, utilization, maintenance cost, operational demand, and expected useful life.
  • Track major repair and maintenance costs to identify equipment that may no longer be economically viable.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of purchasing, repairing, rebuilding, renting, or replacing equipment.
  • Work with Finance and Operations to support asset budgeting and forecasting.

Data, Reporting & Performance

  • Develop and maintain reporting on asset utilization, downtime, maintenance costs, equipment availability, and reliability.
  • Establish and monitor key asset performance indicators.
  • Review equipment trends and provide recommendations to leadership based on operational and financial data.
  • Ensure asset information within company systems remains accurate and current.
  • Support management with asset-related analysis and reporting as requested.

Vendor & Equipment Management

  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, repair facilities, and third-party vendors as needed.
  • Evaluate vendor performance, repair quality, cost, and turnaround time.
  • Assist with equipment specifications and technical requirements for new purchases.
  • Review vendor recommendations and determine appropriate repair or replacement strategies.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with key suppliers and service providers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant oilfield, pressure control, completions, frac, flowback, drillout, or equipment management experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in asset management, equipment reliability, engineering, maintenance, or oilfield operations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment and oilfield service operations.
  • Experience analyzing equipment utilization, maintenance history, repair costs, and asset performance.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance and equipment reliability practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other business or asset management systems.
  • Experience with ERP, maintenance, inventory, or asset tracking systems preferred.


Behavioral Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Understand the general operation of all office equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, and calculator/10-key.
  • The ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software programs to meet the needs of the position is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment where responsibilities frequently change.
  • Previous experience dispatching equipment.

Work Environment:


  • Office-based with frequent phone and computer work.
  • May require occasional after-hours support depending on job schedules.
  • Regular interaction with management, field crews, supervisors, and customer representatives.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and wear required PPE in field operations.
