Job Scope
High level purpose of function.
The Process Engineer (PFMEA Specialist) is responsible for driving proactive risk reduction by applying the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology, primarily the Process FMEA (PFMEA) to all manufacturing and assembly processes. This role ensures potential process failures are identified, prioritized, and mitigated before they impact quality, cost, safety, or customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
FMEA Facilitation and Execution:
- Lead and moderate cross-functional team workshops to develop, review, and update Process FMEA (PFMEA) documents for new and existing production lines.
- Drive the FMEA process from defining the scope and process mapping to failure mode identification, severity, occurrence, and detection ranking.
Risk Prioritization and Mitigation:
- Calculate the Risk Priority Number or use Action Priority to systematically prioritize high-risk failure modes.
- Define and propose effective Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions focused on eliminating the cause of failure (preventing occurrence) or improving process controls (improving detection).
Integration and Documentation:
- Ensure PFMEA requirements and controls are accurately cascaded into supporting documentation, specifically the Control Plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Maintain all FMEA documents as "living documents," ensuring timely updates based on lessons learned, process changes, Non-Conformance Reports customer feedback, and internal audits.
Training and Mentorship:
- Provide training and coaching to engineering, quality, and production teams on FMEA methodology, best practices, and the use of specialized FMEA software.

- Budget responsibility: No

- All employees are accountable for complying with safety regulations and actively supporting a safe workplace.
- Decision Authority: Authorized to recommend the implementation of specific process controls and mistake-proofing measures to the Process Engineering Manager. Can approve the FMEA scoring and required follow-up actions with cross functional teams’ consensus.
Requirements
Educational background, experience, and skills
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Process, Manufacturing, Quality, or Industrial).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or process engineering, with a dedicated focus on FMEA/PFMEA methodology.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in FMEA/PFMEA methodology (preferably to AIAG/VDA standards or similar industry standards).
- Proficiency in utilizing FMEA software (e.g., APIS, Plato, or integrated quality management systems).
- Strong working knowledge of statistical methods, Six Sigma, 8D problem-solving, and quality tools.
- Soft Skills: Proven ability to facilitate and effectively lead multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams and drive decisions.
