About the Role:
The Electrician works on all aspects of the University’s electrical systems, including scheduled maintenance, new construction, and emergency response.
The Electrician will:
Perform routine, scheduled electrical maintenance work, ranging from 24 volts to 13,800 volts, on various related systems such power distribution systems, fire alarm systems, lighting systems and building automation control systems;
Perform troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment, such as medium voltage relay protection systems and associated 125VDC control, normal and emergency power systems, interior/exterior lighting and associated control systems, automated clocks, mechanical system components such as variable frequency drives, and analog/digital BAS control devices;
Act as on-call Electrician (and/or on-call Fire Technician) by responding to priority calls requiring immediate attention, such as fire alarm system de-activation and re-activation, power outage support and issues with electrical equipment;
Work various shifts such as 7:30 am – 4:00 pm or (afternoon shift), including opportunities for overtime;
Perform electrical installation of new equipment, including installing new outlets, new service entrance panels, new light fixtures and lighting control systems, additional fire detection devices and new BAS control devices;
Work with and assist other Facilities Management staff or contracted trades on electrical related items;
Maintain a clean, safe working area and report any unsafe conditions; and
Ability to communicate clear and precise in a respectful manner is an asset.
Please note this is a 40 hour per week position.
Key Skills and Experience:
Licensed Journeyman Electrician certification;
2-5 years of relevant work experience;
Current Ontario driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract;
Current Working at Heights certification;
Current CSA462 training (Arc Flash);
Demonstrated ability to perform electrical installations, maintenance work, troubleshooting and repairs;
Knowledge of Electrical and Fire codes, legislation, regulations, building operation manuals, operating procedures, safety guidelines, policies, and procedures;
Knowledge of specialty tools such as electrical diagnostic meters, power tools and power quality instrumentation;
Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and equipment specifications;
Demonstrated ability to use PC-based software systems such as BAS or computerized energy management system, Lutron Lighting systems, Simplex and Edwards EST# Fire Alarm Systems, and other related software;
Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations and procedures;
Ability to work as a team to brainstorm solutions, as well as independently;
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, students, and visitors within the physical space being maintained;
Ability to estimate equipment and component requirements for renovations, installations, and repairs;
Ability to review existing installation(s) and evaluate if additional components/fixtures can be added without compromising the safety and operation of the installation;
Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks;
Ability to resolve emergency situations.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
Fire Technician certification.
Salary and Total Rewards:
Job Group (Class 120), Hourly Scale ($38.36-$40.13)*;
