We offer a competitive salary for this role, with an expected range of $71,600 – $90,700/yr. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. The Front Line Supervisor - Test & Activation works with management and mechanics to support D09OC and D15OC. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the The Front Line Supervisor - Test & Activation ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Duel Test & Activation Role for D09OC and D15OC
- Lead specialized group of mechanics through testing, troubleshooting, activation and operation of shipboard systems
- Plan, organize, and coordinate work of mechanics to include setting a clear plan of the day
- Review and distribute test procedures for execution
- Ensure first-time quality and efficiency in completing assigned tasks
- Support the Test and Trials leadership team in setting and maintaining test schedules
- Ensure work is completed within established schedule and budget
- Support and administer union contract and agreements, including overtime polling
- Ensure safety procedures and policies are followed and set the example for a safe workplace
- Communicate with other trades, management and shifts to set plans, resolve issues, and foster a safe and efficient progression to full ship operation and sea trials.
- Use electronic Work Force Management (WFM) to maintain employees' daily time including overtime
Project Execution:
- Lead execution of D09 and D15 test and flush activities to support ship schedules.
- Monitor the quality of work performed; ensure first-time quality through proper oversight and training.
- Support Plan of the Week (POW) execution and coordinate with area management to align resources with operational needs.
- Get and maintain security clearance
Operational Management:
- Participate in efforts to improve efficiency and optimization.
- Provide technical guidance and support to mechanics.
- Ensure accountability of task and goal completion.
- Understand, support, and administer the union labor contract.
- Use electronic time accounting system (WFM) to maintain employees’ time, overtime, and work order charges daily.
Mentoring & Team Development:
- Mentor mechanics by developing their technical knowledge and ability to execute daily objectives.
- Ensure procedures and process controls are well-documented and communicated to the personnel charged with executing the tasks.
- Promote continuous learning and skills development for mechanics.
Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in Business Operating System (BOS) principles and productivity enhancements.
- Focus on the quality of trade’s workmanship to ensure quality standards.
- Incorporate the Plan-Do-Check-Act model to ensure sustainment of the improvements established.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- High School diploma or GED required
- Graduate BIW Apprentice preferre//d
Required/Preferred Experience
Required:
2 or more years of test and activation experience
Solid understanding of shipbuilding and/or manufacturing processes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
Currently holds or able to obtain security clearance
Preferred:
- Previous supervisory experience in a production environment
