Description

  • 2x Full time, fixed term for 12 months, with potential for extension

  • Unique opportunity for a talented educator to contribute to the university’s Teaching and Learning strategic plan

  • Academic Level B, Base Salary $132,533 – $147,445 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney seeks to deliver a transformational learning experience for its students and a culture of teaching for academics. To support these strategic aims, we are recruiting a fantastic opportunity for a Lecturer in Academic Development and Leadership (Education Focused) within our Division of Teaching and Learning team in the DVC Education & Students Portfolio.

Education-focused roles are a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. In this role you will be expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the program and will be on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery. The majority of your contribution will be within education (70%), with a proportion of workload (30%) available for research and service.

Your key responsibilities can include:

  • work within the Academic Development team to contribute to the delivery of educational programs and experiences that support staff and student needs, particularly around generative AI

  • contribute to assurance of learning initiatives

  • contribute to professional development courses for educators, with a particular focus on providing high-quality feedback and assessment of participant work

  • apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to educational innovation

  • develop and suggest innovative practices in teaching and learning with a view to improving educational outcomes

  • demonstrate impact through improving student outcomes, experiences and learning.

We will be hiring two positions, one around AI professional learning and a second around assurance of learning, and so the above responsibilities will vary by role.

About you

  • experience with academic development and the support of other educators and their practice

  • experience supporting the development of educators' teaching practice, including individual consultation, group facilitation, and the design of scalable professional learning initiatives

  • proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team with colleagues from differing roles and disciplinary backgrounds on strategic projects at an institutional level

  • high-level oral and written communication skills and the ability to lead and influence

  • success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives, preferably in a tertiary academic development context

  • passion and expertise for, and excellence in, university teaching and academic development

  • expertise in the effective use of technology in teaching at the tertiary level

  • strong attention to detail and deadlines, as well as the ability to accommodate changing work priorities

  • awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy UK or higher

  • a PhD or other postgraduate qualifications in Higher Education or similar is desirable.
