The Team: The Equity Data value stream at S&P Dow Jones Indices manages all data related to securities and corporate actions, ensuring accuracy and reliability for indices and analytics. This includes collecting, validating, and updating information on stocks and related instruments. The team processes corporate actions such as rights offerings, splits, and dividends to ensure data accuracy. Their work ensures that indices and analytics are built on reliable, up-to-date data. The team collaborates closely with other departments to support index calculation, rebalance and client needs. This role is critical for maintaining data integrity and supporting the company’s product offerings.

Responsibilities and Impact: The Data Product Owner (Associate) is accountable for the data supporting the maintenance and calculation of S&P Dow Jones Indices. This global and collaborative team is committed to maintaining the integrity and quality of our financial indices, with every team member encouraged to contribute to initiatives that improve business areas and processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research and verify corporate actions (rights offerings, splits, dividends) accurately inputting them into proprietary databases, thereby contributing directly to the integrity and quality of our global financial indices and supporting critical financial infrastructure.
  • Proactively monitor multiple news sources for new corporate action announcements, ensuring data quality and adherence to strict deadlines across diverse global markets.
  • Ensure all entries are meticulously verified and supporting evidence is stored, providing guidance and clarification to support the team in delivering quality work and resolving varied, non-routine issues that may arise.
  • Implement robust data governance practices, including validation and auditing, to maintain high standards of data quality, consistency, and completeness for critical financial products.
  • Develop deep domain expertise in securities and corporate actions, gaining exposure to industry standards (ISIN, CUSIP, Share Type), workflow automation, and data management tools, positioning you for future roles in data management, product development, or analytics.
  • Proactively communicate major issues, efficiently answer client queries on corporate actions, and coordinate with global teams, fostering strong customer focus and effective cross-regional collaboration to ensure smooth operations.
  • Work in close coordination with Product Leads, Index Design, Commercial teams, Technology and Production teams to further enhance our system capabilities.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve; requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of data, and documentation.
  • Provide backup functions for other team members in other regions.
  • All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in math, finance, business, or relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
  • Excellent understanding of financial markets.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in relational databases, coupled with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Databricks, Python programming, or ETL processes like Power Automate is preferred.
  • CFA or Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience at an index provider and/or financial institution focused on index tracking/replication or portfolio management.
  • Experience with corporate action research.
  • Proficient in interpreting and analyzing corporate filings and related documents, as well as applying that analysis to the data inputs underlying S&P DJI Indices.
  • Understanding of how indices are used and the impact corporate events and rebalance changes have on both indices and financial portfolios.
  • Knowledge of vendor terminals and vendor data analytical platforms.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, work with others and manage projects.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and / or groups.
