About the Business
Our client is an established, family-owned food manufacturing business based in Huddersfield, specialising in the sourcing, blending and packing of dry powder ingredients. The business supplies customers across retail and business-to-business markets and operates a close-knit manufacturing site with a strong focus on food safety, quality, hygiene and customer service.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, factory-facing Hygiene Supervisor position sitting within the Technical function. The successful candidate will take ownership of hygiene standards and activities across the site, working closely with the Technical Manager, Production and wider operational teams.
The role is focused on supervising and driving site hygiene standards rather than directly managing a large hygiene team, so it would suit someone who is confident taking responsibility for standards, compliance, documentation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of day-to-day hygiene standards across the manufacturing site.
- Coordinate cleaning schedules, deep cleans and planned hygiene activities.
- Maintain high standards across factory floors, walls, fabrication and general production areas.
- Work closely with Production and operational teams to ensure hygiene and food safety standards are consistently maintained.
- Manage chemical controls, COSHH requirements and safe cleaning practices.
- Coordinate pest control activities and ensure actions are completed and documented.
- Carry out hygiene, GMP and internal audits, identifying areas for improvement.
- Investigate hygiene-related non-conformances and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support HACCP, BRCGS and wider food safety compliance requirements.
- Maintain hygiene records, cleaning documentation, audit trails and compliance information.
- Support audit preparation and ensure the site remains inspection-ready.
- Use data and trends to identify recurring hygiene issues and drive continuous improvement.
About You
- Ideally 3-5+ years' experience within Hygiene, Quality or Technical roles in food manufacturing.
- Practical experience of maintaining and improving hygiene standards within a factory environment.
- Good working knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, COSHH, GMP and food safety requirements.
- Experience of hygiene or internal auditing and managing corrective actions.
- Strong IT and administration skills, with confidence maintaining accurate records and reports.
- Confident communicating with both shop-floor teams and senior stakeholders.
- Approachable and collaborative, while comfortable challenging standards when required.
- Able to demonstrate practical food manufacturing experience rather than relying solely on qualifications.
The Environment
The site employs approximately 35 people across Production and Warehouse. This is a close-knit environment where personality and communication style are important. The successful person will need to build strong relationships across the factory while maintaining high standards of hygiene, food safety and compliance.
