Job Posting Title:
Sr. Platform Engineer (PH)Req ID:
10160665Job Description:
The Senior Platform Engineer is a skilled, independent contributor who designs, implements, and supports core platform and infrastructure capabilities that power magical Disney Experiences across parks, resorts, cruises, and consumer products. You will focus on data pipelines, on-prem server architecture, observability, and DevOps automation, ensuring robust, scalable, and reliable environments that enable teams to deliver seamless guest and cast experiences.
This is a Project Hire position with no guarantee of permanent placement.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will act as a proficient problem-solver and effective partner to engineering and product teams, owning platform components from design through operations while mentoring colleagues and working with minimal guidance. You will emphasize automation, observability, and lifecycle management platforms to improve reliability, reduce operational toil, and support data-driven decisions that enhance Disney Experiences worldwide.
Collaborate with team members, product, and engineering partners to deliver platform capabilities, support project needs, and resolve complex issues for assigned components or improvements.
Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible and Terraform to standardize and streamline platform operations.
Efficiently support platform software and systems throughout their lifecycle, including upgrades, maintenance, troubleshooting, and clear operational documentation.
Build, enhance, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable, repeatable deployments across environments.
Monitor and improve system performance, availability, and scalability through proactive analysis, observability practices, and automation, leveraging tools such as Splunk where appropriate.
Evolve the Kubernetes, Harvester, and Splunk platforms.
Specify, install, and maintain the physical layer beneath the platform, including servers, storage, network hardware, and out-of-band management, and own capacity, redundancy, firmware, and lifecycle planning for it.
Size hypervisor and Kubernetes hosts to the workload and design hardware failure domains across racks, power feeds, and switch pairs so that quorum members and storage replicas survive a single physical fault.
Diagnose hardware faults to the component using out-of-band event logs, sensor data, and vendor diagnostics, and manage firmware across the fleet through validated per-platform baselines and staged, quorum-aware rollouts.
Maintain compliance with security, operational, and reliability standards across all supported environments, contributing to best practices and operational runbooks.
Work independently on complex platform initiatives, occasionally leading small efforts and providing guidance to less-experienced engineers as a mentor and subject-matter resource.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or closely related roles.
Strong understanding of DevOps and reliability concepts, including monitoring, alerting, redundancy, failover, capacity, and performance analysis.
Experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins or GitLab for building, testing, and deploying platform changes.
Hands-on experience supporting server and platform infrastructure, including Linux and/or Windows administration, networking fundamentals, storage/backup, and platform operations.
Hands-on experience with physical server and datacenter hardware, including commissioning and BIOS/UEFI configuration, out-of-band management such as iDRAC, iLO, or Redfish, component replacement, cabling and optics, and working vendor support cases through to resolution.
Working knowledge of server hardware architecture where it affects platform performance and reliability, including NUMA, memory channel population, PCIe lane budgeting, drive endurance, and interpreting ECC and other hardware error signals.
Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform to manage configuration and provisioning at scale.
Experience operating or integrating with observability and log analytics platforms, preferably including Splunk.
Good collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams in a partner-driven, team-oriented environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently identify root causes and drive durable solutions as a self-directed, effective worker.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud platforms and services such as AWS for hosting and integrating platform capabilities.
Familiarity with containerized workloads or Kubernetes-based platforms and their operational considerations.
Experience with industrial or OT hardware in an operating environment, including DIN-rail and fanless equipment, PLCs, and long-lifecycle assets where maintenance windows are set by the operating schedule rather than by IT.
Experience with monitoring, observability, and data visualization tools, including advanced use of Splunk or similar technologies.
