MUFG is seeking a Director, Head of Global Subsidiary Banking (GSB), to lead and drive its subsidiary banking business. In this role, you will shape and execute the strategic vision for the GSB portfolio while engaging with multinational corporations across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. You will be entrusted with leading a high-performing team, fostering strong relationships with senior stakeholders, and delivering exceptional client service while upholding the highest standards of risk management, governance, and operational excellence.
What you'll do:
In the capacity of Director, Head of Global Subsidiary Banking (GSB), you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing the strategic vision for MUFG's subsidiary banking business.
Direct the overarching GSB strategy and business development activities by harmonizing local aspirations with broader regional and global imperatives
Administer and expand the GSB portfolio comprising multinational corporations from the Americas, EMEA, and APAC through judicious relationship-building and market acumen
Devise comprehensive business plans aimed at achieving revenue targets, profitability benchmarks, return on equity goals, and new client acquisition milestones
Collaborate extensively with product partners across Transaction Banking, Global Markets, Capital Markets Group, Structured Finance, and other pertinent units to augment client wallet share
Discern emerging business opportunities and market trends to fortify the organization’s standing within the GSB franchise
Serve as the principal relationship owner for key GSB clients by engaging with stakeholders at senior management and C-suite levels to sustain enduring connections with decision-makers
Supervise deal origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution across lending products, transaction banking solutions, treasury offerings, and capital markets transactions
Contribute meaningfully to annual account planning and strategic client reviews alongside Global Relationship Managers to optimize relationship returns
Lead, mentor, and develop the GSB team by fostering a culture of high performance grounded in collaboration and mutual support
Provide guidance on client management strategies, credit risk assessment methodologies, deal execution best practices, and business development approaches
Allocate resources judiciously within the team to ensure optimal client coverage while overseeing workload management for balanced operations
Support talent development initiatives, including succession planning and staff engagement activities
Maintain responsibility for portfolio quality by proactively managing credit risk within the GSB portfolio
Oversee the preparation of credit proposals, transaction approvals, and business cases while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
Partner closely with Credit, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and other control functions to ensure effective risk governance and timely issue resolution
Monitor portfolio performance indicators such as covenant compliance, utilization trends, AML/KYC requirements, and other risk factors
Act as the primary liaison between local teams as well as regional and Head Office stakeholders on all GSB-related matters
Build strong working relationships with internal partners, including Credit Operations, Client Services, Product Offices, Finance, Compliance, and regional GSB teams
Represent the organization at industry events, client forums, business councils, and networking platforms to enhance market visibility
Ensure high standards of client service delivery by overseeing account opening, facility implementation, documentation, and onboarding processes to ensure timely execution
Drive process improvements and operational excellence initiatives aimed at enhancing client experience and business effectiveness
Contribute strategic ideas and recommendations for the continuous enhancement of MUFG’s business operating model
What you bring:
To excel in this role, you should possess substantial experience in corporate banking, complemented by deep familiarity with multinational client portfolios.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, or a related discipline
At least 12 to 15 years of relevant banking experience with significant exposure to corporate banking, transaction banking or multinational client coverage
Proven experience in managing and growing client relationships, originating transactions, and delivering sustainable business growth through collaborative efforts
Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, enabling you to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams while fostering a supportive and collaborative environment
Strong understanding of corporate banking products, treasury solutions, credit risk management, financial analysis, and regulatory requirements
Excellent stakeholder management skills, allowing you to engage effectively with senior management, clients, and internal partners while building trusted networks across all levels of the organization
Experience working within regional and international banking environments, equipping you with the valuable perspective and adaptability required to succeed in a global setting
