Description

Who We Are

Today, more than half of all college students in the U.S. are first-generation, the first in their families to navigate college and forge a career path beyond graduation. But only 21% of first-generation college students graduate within six years.  While there are a multitude of programs for first-generation college students, few offer the deep mentoring relationships and skill-building necessary to graduate and launch successful careers. This is where America Needs You (ANY) comes in. After completing our Fellows Program, 96% of ANY Fellows graduate college and go on to earn a median income significantly higher than their peers.

ANY is the national nonprofit connecting first-generation college students with transformative mentorship and intensive career development for economic mobility. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in New York City, ANY expanded to New Jersey in 2012, Illinois in 2015, and our operation continues to grow. In 2021, ANY launched FirstGenU, a flexible digital career development program designed to help first-generation college students across the country launch great careers. Visit americaneedsyou.org to learn more about our programs and their impact.

Who You Are

America Needs You is seeking a Senior Manager, Data & Impact to lead the organization’s program data, impact measurement, evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts. Reporting to the Chief Impact & Innovation Officer, this role will serve as our primary internal expert on program measurement, quantitative and qualitative evaluation, Fellow voice, and impact reporting.

This is not a reporting role alone. We are looking for someone who moves beyond describing results to explain what findings mean, why they matter, and what ANY should consider doing about them. The work is hands-on: will independently run recurring collection, quality assurance, surveys, analysis, and dashboards, while recommending and implementing improvements to ANY’s data infrastructure. This role will partner with staff across departments to ensure data is not only collected and reported but actively used to strengthen programs, improve participant experiences, and communicate our impact.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Is committed to ANY’s mission of supporting ambitious, first-generation college students
  • Works directly in the data, applies appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods, and know what a given method can and cannot support
  • Loves making systems clearer, more useful, and easier for teams to follow
  • Can translate findings into clear recommendations that help teams make decisions
  • Builds trust with colleagues at every level of comfort with data

What You'll Do

Analysis, recommendations, and continuous improvement

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative information to identify trends, disparities, risks, and opportunities, and explain what the findings mean and what ANY should consider doing about them.
  • Facilitate regular data reviews, learning cycles, and decision-making conversations with program teams and leadership, and track the decisions, owners, and next steps that emerge.
  • Help teams determine what should continue, change, expand, be tested, or be discontinued, and assess whether implemented changes produce the intended results.
  • Support a culture of training and learning in which staff use data for reflection, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

Impact measurement, evaluation, and Fellow voice

  • Develop and implement practical evaluation and impact measurement approaches aligned with ANY’s Theory of Change, strategic priorities, and program model.
  • Define, track, and interpret indicators related to Fellow persistence, Mentor Coach persistence, workshop attendance, engagement, internships, career outcomes, alumni outcomes, and program quality.
  • Design and manage surveys, assessments, focus groups, interviews, and listening sessions, including the protocols, instruments, and consent language they require, and synthesize the results into themes, findings, and recommendations alongside quantitative outcomes.
  • Champion ethical, consent-based, and non-exploitative feedback practices, and find ways to collect it that are less burdensome for Fellows, Mentor Coaches, alumni, and staff.

Data systems, quality, and governance

  • Assess and strengthen ANY’s organization-wide data collection, reporting, and governance practices, and evaluate whether current methods provide meaningful, timely, and usable information.
  • Establish and maintain clear data definitions, reporting standards, documentation, ownership, decision rights, and quality expectations across departments.
  • Manage the systems and recurring processes used to collect, clean, organize, and store program data across national and regional work, including regular quality reviews to identify missing, late, inconsistent, duplicative, or inaccurate information.
  • Streamline workflows, reduce duplicative and manual tracking, improve system integration, and create clear sources of truth.
  • Lead implementation and change management for approved improvements, and maintain confidentiality, appropriate access, and sound data-management practices.
  • Serve as the organization’s internal subject matter expert on data systems, evaluation, impact, measurement, and continuous improvement.

Reporting, dashboards, and impact communication

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting for internal and external audiences, and maintain a reporting calendar identifying deadlines, required metrics, responsible parties, and source systems.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, scorecards, visualizations, and written narratives that communicate findings clearly, accurately, and transparently about their limitations.
  • Prepare programmatic and impact updates for the Executive Leadership Team, Board, staff, funders, and partners, and support revenue-generating teams, Finance, and Marketing & Communications on funder reports, grant applications, and external communications.

Collaboration and capacity building

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day partner for program data, evaluation, and reporting across national and regional program teams, Operations, revenue-generating teams, Finance, Marketing & Communications, and leadership.
  • Build staff capacity to interpret information, ask meaningful questions, and use findings, including training and guidance on collection, surveys, dashboards, definitions, and data quality.
  • Clarify roles, handoffs, and accountability for data collection, review, and reporting, and help teams absorb those responsibilities without unnecessary administrative burden.

Special Projects & Other Duties

  • Lead or support special projects related to data systems, program evaluation, technology integration, qualitative research, reporting, audits, program optimization, organizational learning, or impact communication.
  • Represent ANY in relevant external learning communities, peer exchanges, or field-building opportunities when appropriate.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, learning-oriented culture that values accuracy, curiosity, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Required

  • Significant progressive experience in nonprofit data management, program evaluation, impact measurement, applied research, or a closely related field, including experience owning data or reporting processes that span more than one team.
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce as an organizational system of record, including building reports and dashboards, managing list views and record types, configuring validation rules, and performing bulk data imports and cleanup. Nonprofit Success Pack experience preferred.

  • Formal training or substantial applied experience in quantitative research methods, including regression analysis and significance testing, with the judgment to say what a given method can and cannot support.
  • Experience designing evaluation approaches that go beyond descriptive reporting, such as comparison-group, pre and post, or quasi-experimental designs, and the ability to explain their limitations honestly.
  • Demonstrated experience with mixed methods: designing, administering, and analyzing surveys, and running focus groups or interviews and synthesizing them into written findings.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data validation.
  • Experience establishing data definitions, documentation, ownership, and quality standards across departments.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across long and sometimes changing timelines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, and the ability to influence across functions without direct authority.
  • Comfort working in an evolving environment and helping create new systems, processes, and approaches.
  • Working understanding of participant data privacy, informed consent, and the confidential handling of personal information.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree in evaluation, statistics, public policy, economics, education research, or a related field is strongly preferred, as is equivalent applied research experience.
  • Ability to travel as needed to cultivate, assess, and support university partnerships across markets.

Preferred

  • Experience in college access and success, youth development, higher education, or workforce development.
  • Familiarity with Theory of Change and logic model frameworks.
  • Experience with data visualization libraries or reproducible analysis workflows, such as notebooks or version-controlled scripts.
  • Experience with workflow automation or integration between a CRM and other program platforms.
  • Experience managing external technology vendors or implementation partners.

What We Offer

  • A warm, collaborative work environment with a rich culture of support and feedback
  • A generous benefits package (health/dental insurance, 403(b), FSA, three weeks’ vacation, etc.)
  • Connections to an expansive professional network
