Associate Data Scientist

The Associate Data Scientist supports the development and delivery of data-driven solutions that enable better decision-making across scientific, digital, commercial and operational functions. Initially this will involve supporting existing projects by adding extra functionality but the candidate should be able to take responsibility for a project of their own after six months. Knowledge of Python is essential.

About the role

The Associate Data Scientist supports the development and delivery of data-driven solutions that enable better decision-making across scientific, digital, commercial and operational functions. Working closely with data engineers, life scientists and other business stakeholders, you will apply machine learning to solve real-world challenges.

This position reports to the Principal Data Scientist and is part of the Data & AI Team located in Cambridge. It is an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Explore, clean, and transform complex datasets from multiple sources.
• Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to solve business problems and improve operational performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into well-defined problems.
• Communicate findings through clear visualisations, presentations, and written recommendations.
• Support the deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of data science solutions.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative subject.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
• Very strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

It would be a plus if you also possess one or more of the following:

• Experience with cloud-based computing environments, especially AWS.
• Experience with software development according to CI/CD principles, including containerisation.
• Understanding of causal inference methods, e.g. DAGs.
