Job Summary
• The Graphics Industry Analyst combines market intelligence, economic analysis, forecasting, competitive intelligence, and strategic advisory expertise to develop an independent and forward-looking perspective on the graphics industry. This role explains what is changing, why it is changing, where the market is heading, and what it means for the business, translating market complexity into actionable insights that support strategic planning, portfolio decisions, and investments.
Responsibilities
• Market Drivers: Research and identify the fundamental economic, technological, competitive, regulatory, and customer drivers shaping global graphics markets across digital and analog printing, production, industrial, large format, labels, packaging, and specialty printing.
• Market Surveillance: Develop and maintain market-driver dashboards by category and geography, using leading indicators to identify changes in demand, print activity, technology adoption, and customer investment.
• Market Sizing & Forecasting: Build and maintain top-down and bottom-up models using macroeconomic indicators, installed base, equipment shipments, replacement cycles, utilization, print volumes, and other market fundamentals.
• Market Outlook: Develop short-, medium-, and long-term forecasts that explain both expected market direction and the underlying factors driving change.
• Technology & Application Trends: Analyze shifts across printing technologies and applications, including the transition from analog to digital and the emergence of new production methods and use cases.
• Competitive Intelligence: Evaluate competitive dynamics across equipment manufacturers, technology providers, software and workflow companies, consumables and substrate suppliers, print service providers, converters, and channels.
• Customer & Industry Economics: Assess customer purchasing behavior, equipment economics, utilization, productivity, pricing, consumables, services, workflow efficiency, and total cost of ownership.
• Scenario Analysis: Quantify the potential impact of macroeconomic conditions, FX, tariffs, inflation, supply-chain changes, regulations, sustainability requirements, technology adoption, and competitive actions.
• Emerging Trends & Thought Leadership: Identify market inflection points, risks, and growth opportunities while developing hypotheses that challenge conventional assumptions and generate new strategic insights.
• Strategic Communication: Translate complex quantitative and qualitative analysis into clear market points of view, executive presentations, dashboards, competitive assessments, and actionable recommendations.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with strategy, finance, product management, marketing, sales, R&D, operations, and regional teams to support forecasting, portfolio strategy, planning, and investment decisions.
• Industry Thought Leadership: Serve as a trusted source of independent market insight, helping leadership align around market assumptions while constructively challenging unsupported perspectives.
Education & Experience Recommended
• Education: Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, MBA, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Industry Analysis Experience: 10+ years of experience in market intelligence, forecasting, strategic planning, economics, business analytics, or related analytical roles.
• Technology & Graphics Experience: 5+ years analyzing technology, hardware, software, services, graphics, printing, or industrial markets, with strong understanding of the graphics ecosystem.
• Forecasting & Market Modeling: Demonstrated experience developing top-down and bottom-up market-sizing models and forecasting markets based on fundamental drivers.
• Graphics Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of digital and analog printing technologies and applications across production, industrial, large format, labels, packaging, receipts, and specialty printing.
• Market Dynamics: Experience in analyzing technology transitions, customer investment behavior, equipment installed base, replacement cycles, print volumes, and industry economics.
• Analytical Judgment: Demonstrated ability to combine quantitative analysis, qualitative research, industry expertise, and professional judgment to develop differentiated market insights.
• Executive Communication: Proven ability to communicate complex market analyses, implications, and recommendations effectively to senior executives and cross-functional leaders.

• Graphics Market Expertise: Deep understanding of global graphics and printing markets, including technologies, applications, customer segments, channels, competitors, and business models.
• Digital & Analog Economics: Strong knowledge of digital-versus-analog printing economics and the factors influencing technology adoption, productivity, utilization, workflow, run length, and total cost of ownership.
• Forecasting Expertise: Advanced knowledge of forecasting methods including time-series analysis, regression, econometric modeling, scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and leading-indicator frameworks.
• Macroeconomic Knowledge: Strong understanding of economic and industry indicators such as GDP, industrial production, consumer and business spending, advertising, manufacturing, inflation, interest rates, FX, and trade.
• Market Data Sources: Familiarity with major economic, technology, and graphics-industry sources including World Bank, IMF, OECD, IDC, Gartner, GfK, Context, Keypoint Intelligence, Smithers, and other relevant providers.
• Data & Analytical Tools: Strong quantitative and data-management capabilities using Excel, Python, R, SQL, business-intelligence platforms, and visualization tools.
• Executive Storytelling: Advanced PowerPoint and presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex market, economic, and technical topics into clear business implications.
• Strategic Thinking: Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to identify market drivers, distinguish cyclical changes from structural shifts, develop hypotheses, and challenge conventional thinking.
• Communication & Leadership: Excellent problem-solving, written and verbal communication, presentation, stakeholder-management, and project-management capabilities.
• Collaboration & Influence: Ability to work effectively across functions and organizational levels, build consensus, resolve conflicting perspectives, and maintain an independent analytical point of view.
