POSITION SUMMARY
HASI is seeking a Tax Manager to join our accounting team in Annapolis, MD. This individual will advise internal stakeholders on the tax impacts of closed and prospective transactions, model and analyze 704(b) capital accounts, and support core workstreams across HASI's tax function, including tax compliance, reporting, and forecasting.
This position will report to the Assistant Vice President – Tax & Accounting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and maintain partnership tax models, including allocations of income, gain, loss, deduction, and credit
- Support modeling of complex ownership structures, distribution waterfalls, and other partnership economics
- Review partnership agreements and related transaction documents to ensure tax models appropriately reflect the agreed-upon terms
- Assist in evaluating the tax implications of new investments, restructurings, dispositions, and other transactions
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on model assumptions, calculations, and reporting deliverables
- Investigate and resolve modeling issues, discrepancies, and questions related to partner allocations and capital account balances
- Support core tax department workstreams, such as compliance, reporting, and forecasting
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE
- At least 5-7 years of experience in partnership tax at a Big 4 or national public accounting firm, or related roles in renewable energy project finance
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or tax, and CPA designation required
- Strong understanding of partnership taxation regulations (Subchapter K), and experience modeling and maintaining 704(b) capital accounts
- Experience working with complex partnership agreements, distribution waterfalls, and investment structures
- Experience improving or automating tax models and related processes
- Experience with the tax and financial reporting implications of equity method investments structured as partnerships
OTHER COMPETENCIES
- Masters in taxation preferred
- Prior experience in renewable energy project finance preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial/tax modeling capabilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to translate complex tax mechanics into clear and practical insights for non-tax stakeholders
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment, with the ability to work on-site in Annapolis, MD on a more-often-than-not basis
