Position Summary


Palm House is seeking a Seasonal In-Room Dining Server to deliver personalized dining experiences in the comfort and privacy of our guest rooms. This role combines accurate order handling, thoughtful presentation, and timely service to make every meal feel effortless and enjoyable.

The ideal candidate is courteous, dependable, and attentive to detail, with a strong respect for guest privacy. From arranging a beautifully presented breakfast to delivering an evening meal, the In-Room Dining Server brings Palm House’s luxury service standards directly to each guest.


This position is seasonal, with employment anticipated from October through May. Employment is expected to conclude at the end of the seasonal period.


Key Responsibilities

Order Taking & Coordination

  • Receive food and beverage orders using professional telephone etiquette and approved ordering systems.
  • Confirm menu selections, room details, special requests, and estimated delivery times.
  • Enter orders accurately into the point-of-sale system.
  • Communicate allergies and dietary restrictions clearly to culinary and beverage teams, following established procedures.
  • Coordinate order preparation and promptly communicate delays or unavailable items.
  • Maintain knowledge of menus, ingredients, preparation methods, and beverage selections to provide thoughtful recommendations.

Delivery & Personalized Service

  • Verify each order for completeness, accuracy, and presentation before leaving the service area.
  • Arrange trays and dining carts with appropriate linens, utensils, condiments, and glassware.
  • Deliver orders promptly while maintaining food quality and safe temperatures.
  • Follow hotel procedures for knocking, announcing service, and obtaining permission before entering guest rooms.
  • Set up the dining experience according to guest preferences and explain dishes as appropriate.
  • Present checks discreetly and confirm charges according to hotel procedures.
  • Explain tray retrieval arrangements and respond promptly to collection requests.

Guest Care & Privacy

  • Provide warm, professional service while respecting guest privacy and personal belongings.
  • Follow room-access, key-security, and confidentiality procedures at all times.
  • Address guest concerns with empathy and involve a manager when appropriate.
  • Coordinate special deliveries and guest amenities as assigned.
  • Communicate outstanding requests to the appropriate team and follow through on completion.

Service Preparation & Teamwork

  • Keep service stations stocked, clean, and organized throughout the shift.
  • Collect used trays and carts promptly from guest rooms and designated areas, following hotel procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize service equipment and return items to their designated locations.
  • Process payments and room charges accurately.
  • Work closely with Culinary, Bar, Front Office, Housekeeping, and Stewarding.
  • Complete opening duties, closing duties, and shift handovers.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service procedures.
  • Uphold Palm House standards for presentation, professional appearance, and Forbes-aligned service.

In-Room Dining Server – Seasonal | Job Requirements


Experience & Knowledge

  • Previous food and beverage serving experience required.
  • In-room dining, luxury hotel, or resort experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of dining etiquette, tray and cart presentation, and food service procedures.
  • Familiarity with food safety, temperature control, sanitation, and allergy precautions.
  • Basic knowledge of wines, cocktails, and other beverage offerings preferred.
  • Experience using point-of-sale systems and processing payments.
  • Ability to complete required food safety and responsible alcohol service training.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills and a professional telephone manner.
  • A warm, courteous approach and commitment to personalized guest service.
  • Strong attention to detail when taking orders, preparing deliveries, and verifying charges.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple orders and coordinate timely deliveries.
  • Discretion and sound judgment when entering guest rooms and handling guest information.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with other departments.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and consistent follow-through.

Availability & Working Conditions

  • Availability for seasonal employment from October through May, with employment expected to conclude at the end of the season.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work efficiently across service areas, guest corridors, and guest rooms.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods throughout a shift.
  • Safely carrying and balancing trays, dishes, glassware, and service items.
  • Pushing and maneuvering dining carts through corridors, elevators, and guest rooms.
  • Bending, reaching, and stooping during setup, delivery, and collection.
  • Moving supplies and equipment using safe handling practices and assistance when needed.
  • Operating telephones, point-of-sale terminals, and service equipment.
