Job Description:

Role Synopsis

The Intelligence & Optimisation Lead is responsible for enabling high‑quality category decision‑making and improving procurement effectiveness through actionable insights, analytics and recommendations. You will demonstrate advanced analytics to uncover trends, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support BP's global procurement initiatives by providing data-driven insights that align with business requirements, regulatory compliance and shifting market conditions.

Key Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for demonstrating internal and external data sources to create insights afinding opportunitiesies to re-negotiate commercial or contractual terms, and presenting impact of changing market patterns towards category strategy. You will work cross-functionally within the Procurement organizations to bring actionable insights to the Category team.

  • Conduct detailed analysis of demand, spend, and market patterns to identify trends and opportunities that are relevant to the category team.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and areas for continuous improvement including improving supplier performance and reducing supply or contractual risk.

  • Collaborate with category managers to translate insights into critical initiatives and monitor the impact of implemented strategies to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Provide regular reports and updates on market conditions and their potential impact on procurement activities.

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure insights are effectively integrated into procurement strategies.

  • Establish self as the Category subject matter expert on procurement analytics and data science. Implement procedures and innovative approaches to enhance the effectiveness of analytics efforts.

Essential Education:

  • An undergraduate degree (ideally in procurement or business) or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 8-10 years professional experience in Indirect Procurement or commercial analytics is required.

  • Experience of working cross culturally and in an international environment

  • Ability to communicate and influence across different levels in the organisation 

  • Engaging and collaborative way of working 

  • Resilient and experienced in working in multi-faceted environment 

Essential Experience and Job Requirements:

  • Procurement analytics – ability to build spend analysis models, data dashboards, and cost models. Mastery of advanced analytics tools e.g. power BI and advanced data manipulation skills including macros, pivot tables, and complex formulas to develop insights.

  • Market Tools – experience in using data intelligence platforms to develop category insights and recommendations to inform competitive category opportunities.

  • Product and Market Intelligence- Uses deep knowledge of supply markets to create strong sourcing solutions. Uses supply market insights to determine future sourcing strategies for the business. Networks internally and externally and stay up to date via industry publications, conferences, and events.

  • Cost Modelling- Has a strong understanding of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Should-Cost modeling.  Proposes internal and external solutions to reduce costs over the life of the purchase and implements solutions as agreed.

  • Business Requirements Analysis- Use understanding of collaborator strategy and category knowledge to develop a viable, long-term view of business requirements.

  • Category Strategy Expertise - Acknowledged expertise with deep knowledge of their category including thought leadership regarding the impact of innovation and technology. Mentors and coach’s category managers / specialists / analysts / lead in the use of analytical tools.

  • Business Insight- Utilizes deep understanding of business operations and commercial factors to support decision-making and priorities opportunities to drive commercial value. Has a broad professional grasp of financial and management information and accounting procedures. Identifies new or alternative approaches to performing business activities more efficiently.

  • Category Spend Profiling- Develops insights on spend profiles that result in elimination of non-value add spend within the category. Identifies key external and environmental drivers and uses this to recommend sourcing initiatives.

  • Influencing- Proactively manages a wide range of partners to overcome resistance and achieve a successful result from projects. Varies communication to address specific stakpartnerds and to gain commitment and support.

  • Project Management- Manages partner expectations. Lead project execution to maxiimproveue to BP while mitigating project risk.

  • Analytical Thinking- Applies analytical techniques to solve complex problems. Identifies, evaluates, and makes clear recommendations based on analysis.

  • Decision Making- Turns abstract, ambiguous, complex information from a broad range of collaborators and systems into simple, actionable business insights. Makes effective decisions based on urgency and risk level. Makes effective decisions on relevant global issues related to own area of expertise.

  • People Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and support a team within a cross-functional project environment, with a strong attention to detail and timelines.

Desirable criteria

  • Working knowledge of procurement process, and Aviation, supply vessel, supply base+ warehousing and freight forwarding logistics categories

  • Working towards or Membership of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS)

  • Familiarity with Ariba Source to Pay, Salesforce & Compass & also Digital Fluency thereby using various technologies & platforms to develop new ideas, projects and opportunities.

  • Experience of working cross culturally and in an international environment
