Product Yield, Test Coverage, and Failure Analysis Improvement

## Project Description

Micron’s Product Engineering organization develops and qualifies memory and storage products that meet high standards of quality, performance, and reliability.

The intern will undertake a structured engineering project involving NAND Flash, high-speed memory products, and solid-state drives. Under the guidance of experienced engineers, the intern will gain exposure to product development, qualification, manufacturing ramp, testing, product characterization, yield analysis, and electrical failure analysis.

The intern will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders on an assigned product engineering challenge. The project may also include the development of an AI-Enabled analytical or automation solution to improve selected engineering workflows.

## Objective of the Project

• Develop an understanding of NAND Flash, high-speed memory, and solid-state drive product engineering.
• Evaluate test coverage and engineering data to identify yield, quality, or test-efficiency improvement opportunities.
• Apply circuit simulation, electrical failure analysis, and data-analysis techniques to a defined engineering problem.
• Develop a technical recommendation or prototype solution that improves a selected product engineering workflow.

## Project Scope

• Study an assigned NAND Flash, high-speed memory, or solid-state drive product and document its test, qualification, and characterization requirements.
• Analyze selected test results, yield data, or electrical measurements to identify trends, anomalies, and potential improvement opportunities.
• Conduct defined circuit simulations, engineering yield evaluations, or electrical failure analyses under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Develop or enhance test coverage, screening methods, data-analysis scripts, or automated reporting for the assigned use case.
• Explore an AI-Enabled workflow for engineering triage, anomaly detection, knowledge retrieval, or test-result analysis.

## Learning Opportunities

• Gain practical exposure to product development, qualification, manufacturing ramp, product characterization, and yield improvement.
• Learn component-level and system-level testing, debugging, circuit simulation, and electrical failure-analysis methodologies.
• Develop experience with engineering data analytics, test-flow architecture, and characterization equipment.
• Learn how automation, Generative AI, AI Assistants, and large language models can be applied responsibly within product engineering workflows.

## Deliverables

• A documented analysis of the assigned test-coverage, yield, qualification, or failure-analysis challenge.
• Circuit simulation results, electrical characterization findings, or test-coverage recommendations for the selected use case.
• A prototype analytical script, dashboard, automation workflow, or AI-Enabled solution.
• A final technical report and presentation describing the methodology, results, limitations, and recommendations.

## Impact of the Project

• Improve understanding of selected product yield, test coverage, qualification results, or failure mechanisms.
• Identify opportunities to improve product quality, test efficiency, or engineering decision-making.
• Demonstrate the potential value of data analytics, automation, or AI-Enabled workflows in product engineering.

## Skillsets Required

• Understanding of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor device physics, circuit fundamentals, memory technology, or solid-state drive architecture.
• Familiarity with circuit simulation, computer-aided design tools, test-flow architecture, component-level testing, or system-level testing.
• Programming or analytics experience using Python, Structured Query Language, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Machine Learning, Generative AI, large language models, AI Assistants, or AI-Enabled workflows is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, verbal communication, and collaboration skills.

## Course of Interest

The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Microelectronics, Data Science, or a related engineering discipline.

## Duration of Period

The ideal candidate should be able to commit to a full-time internship period of 5 months.
