Your Role

You will assist the Manager Infection Prevention & Control in the coordination and implementation of a comprehensive hospital wide IP&C program and acts a resource person to ensure a high standard of patient care and caregiver safety in the area of infection prevention and control.

 Your responsibilities will include improving and maintaining standards, developing solutions and delivering outcomes consistent with service and organisational targets.

This opportunity is being offered on a part-time, fixed term basis at 22.8 hours per week, initially until October 2027.

The Position

  • Acts as a resource for all hospital personnel in matters pertaining to IP&C and provide recommendations for improvement in all departments.

  • Provides clinical expertise and local leadership to clinical areas on matters pertaining to IP&C.

  • Negotiates patient care with nursing, medical and allied health professionals to ensure that IP&C policies, protocols and standards are observed.

  • Assists with the caregiver health programs by providing appropriate screening and vaccination to all caregivers and ensure the maintenance of such records.

  • Assists in coordination the management of occupational exposure to infectious diseases/hazards for hospital personnel.

  • Assists in the management of occupational exposures (needle stick and splash exposures).

  • Maintains and assists with safe work practice in relation to infection control in collaboration with Work, Health & Safety.

  • Undertakes infection surveillance as per the IP&C departmental management and action plans.

  • Undertakes IP&C audits to ensure compliance with ACSQHC National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards version 2.

  • Ensures that appropriate IP&C standards are practiced and implemented in the area of Environmental Services, in collaboration with the respective caregivers.

  • Undertake annual immunisation update as per HDWA.

  • Participates in committees, projects and other hospital activities as required.

You will be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse, with current immunisation/vaccination certificate or working towards and you will possess an understanding of epidemiology of hospital acquired infection. Accreditation as current Hand Hygiene Auditor will be advantageous but not essential. Post graduate qualifications in Infection Prevention would be desirable but not essential.

To succeed you have understanding and commitment to quality improvement and the National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards process. You will demonstrate well-developed skills in communication, including conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary health care environment.

We can offer you

  • Salary: $109,599 to $115,681 (pro-rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation

  • Fixed term part-time role, working 22.8 hours per week, with flexibility to work additional hours with mutual agreement
