Job Description:
This position is a 100% "working in office" position.
Under general direction, the Revenue Agent Supervisor plans, assigns, directs, reviews and evaluates the work activities of subordinate Revenue Agent Seniors and other assigned staff; works with other governmental agencies and tax associations; manages complex sales tax refunds including incentive refunds, agricultural refunds, and erroneous tax charged refunds. Includes reviewing for fraudulent claim detection and performs related work as assigned.
Job Duties include:
Manages the work activities of assigned staff to include training, planning, assigning, delegating, reviewing and authorizing work.
Evaluates work performance of subordinate staff.
Recommends personnel actions such as appointments, promotions, disciplinary actions, grievances, status changes and separations.
Participates with other Divisions within the Department in reviewing and processing refund claims.
Reviews and approves legal documents prepared to enforce compliance with tax laws.
Conducts informal tax conferences with taxpayers to resolve discrepancies and educate the taxpayer and preparers in their responsibilities.
Communicates with local, county, state; tax preparers; and Federation of Tax Administrators to gain information for refund verification, invoices, other documentation and or to carry out assigned projects.
Answers complex questions regarding all sales tax refund claims.
Researches and recommends solutions for refund claims processes and systems.
Works with Information Technology area on system enchantments needed for processing claims detection.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in business or related field plus two years of experience with tax return preparation, tax compliance, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations and supervisory or work leader experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Knowledge of: Revenue internal accounting and operating procedures and processes; department priorities; management review processes; personnel and supervisory techniques and principles. State tax laws, rules, regulations, forms and tax returns; processes and procedures for sales tax; mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; management and or supervisory principles and practices.
Skills in: assessing and evaluating employee performance and resolving interpersonal conflicts. Reviewing and analyzation of sales tax claims and complex sales tax accounts.
Ability to: present information in legal proceedings; interpret complex tax matters; interpret state tax laws, rules and regulations; identify employee strengths and weaknesses; determine training needs; handle volatile situations where physical harm is possible; interpret complex tax issues; interpret state tax law, rules and regulations; supervise the work of others; plan and assign work to others; communicate effectively; work in stressful situations.
