Description

APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improving daily operations, join us and be part of our journey.

As an OT&A Integration and Testing Lead, you will play a critical role in the North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven (NTB) Transformation Project, supporting the successful integration, modernization, and expansion of one of APM Terminals’ strategic container terminals. Based in Bremerhaven, Germany, you will lead the governance and execution of integration and testing activities across automation, operational technology, equipment, and system integration workstreams. Working closely with terminal operations, engineering, IT, OT teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders, you will ensure that complex technology solutions are validated, operationally ready, and successfully transitioned into live terminal operations.

What We Can Offer

At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Contribute to a major terminal transformation programme involving automation, operational technology, infrastructure upgrades, and new operating models.
  • Collaborate with global technology, engineering, operations, and project teams to deliver complex integration and testing activities.
  • Develop expertise in terminal automation, operational technology, and digital transformation within a global port organisation.
  • Work in an international environment where collaboration, continuous improvement, and structured problem-solving support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and govern the overall Integration and Testing Strategy for automation and operational technology deployments across the NTB Transformation Project.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage Test Plans, test schedules, acceptance criteria, and governance frameworks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate testing activities including factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, interface testing, system integration testing, end-to-end testing, operational scenario testing, user acceptance testing, performance testing, and operational readiness testing.
  • Establish and maintain requirement-to-test traceability across business requirements, operational processes, system interfaces, safety requirements, and operational scenarios.
  • Lead integration planning across terminal operating systems, equipment control systems, crane automation, remote control systems, crane instrumentation systems, OCR solutions, automated equipment, emulation platforms, OT infrastructure, and industrial networks.
  • Manage defect governance processes, including classification, prioritisation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, retesting, and escalation of unresolved risks.
  • Coordinate with vendors, solution providers, engineering teams, IT, OT specialists, and terminal stakeholders to ensure testing activities meet project requirements.
  • Review supplier testing approaches, deliverables, test evidence, and defect resolution progress.
  • Maintain controlled testing documentation, including test strategies, test cases, results, defect reports, readiness assessments, acceptance evidence, and go-live checklists.
  • Lead test readiness reviews, phase-gate reviews, go-live readiness assessments, and stabilisation validation activities.
  • Provide evidence-based readiness input and recommendations to accountable project stakeholders.
  • Support transition into business-as-usual operations through knowledge transfer, documentation handover, and lessons learned.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in automation, systems integration, testing, commissioning, OT, or complex industrial technology environments.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading integration or testing workstreams within multi-vendor project environments.
  • Proven experience developing and managing Test Strategies, Test Plans, defect governance processes, and readiness validation activities.
  • Experience delivering technology deployments within container terminals, industrial automation, logistics automation, or other complex live operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of terminal operating systems and equipment control systems, preferably Navis N4 or equivalent.
  • Experience with automation technologies including PLC-based systems, Siemens PLCs, TIA Portal, WinCC, Ignition, safety systems, industrial communication protocols, and OT network environments.
  • Knowledge of technologies such as TCP/IP, Profinet, Profibus, OPC UA, MQTT, APIs, middleware platforms, and industrial cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience using structured testing and defect management tools, preferably Jira and Xray or equivalent solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently across office, project, vendor, and operational environments.
  • English proficiency is required; German proficiency is preferred.
