A leading music streaming company seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to maintain the uptime, performance, and capacity of production servers and services, with responsibilities spanning system administration, monitoring, automation, troubleshooting, infrastructure maintenance, and architectural support.
Senior Systems Engineer Responsibilities:
- Maintain the uptime, performance, and capacity of production servers and services through ticket and alert triage, monitoring and alerting, system maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
- Manage system configuration and infrastructure, including Linux administration, configuration management, server hardware selection, virtualization platforms, storage architectures, DNS, LDAP, and Kerberos, centralized logging, and containerized systems.
- Perform patching, migrations, upgrades, and change management activities while supporting version control and infrastructure tools, including Git, BitBucket, Ansible, Elasticsearch/ELK, and the HashiCorp suite.
- Develop and maintain system automation, scripting, and CI/CD build pipelines using Python or BASH and participate in infrastructure monitoring, metrics gathering, and capacity planning activities across production environments.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation while independently and collaboratively managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, providing internal client and customer service, documenting technical information, communicating with staff at all levels, and following through on projects.
Senior Systems Engineer Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux administration.
- BA/BS or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
- Expertise in Linux system administration, including Debian and Red Hat, with experience troubleshooting Linux subsystems and internals.
- Ability to create scripts using Python or BASH.
- Significant experience with Ansible-based configuration management.
- Experience specifying and selecting server hardware platforms based on application requirements.
- Familiarity with virtualization hypervisors, including OpenShift KubeVirt, KVM, Nutanix, and VMware.
- Experience with monitoring and metrics gathering tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and SysStat.
- Ability to triage tickets and issues when only partial information is available, including obtaining additional information from requestors.
- Experience with change management and version control, including Git and BitBucket.
- Experience with CI/CD build pipeline development.
- Experience with LDAP and Kerberos administration.
- Familiarity with centralized logging through Elasticsearch/ELK.
- Experience with DNS zone files and DNS administration.
- Experience with SAN, NAS, Ceph, and ZFS storage architectures.
- Experience managing containerized systems, including Docker, Nomad, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
- Experience with HashiCorp products, including Consul, Nomad, and Vault.
- Familiarity with AWS and GCP cloud environments.
Shift:
- Remote: Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
