Description

What’s the job?
The Course Leader is an academic role within the School responsible for the day-to-day coordination, quality assurance and operational management of a designated course. You will help ensure students experience a high-quality, coherent and well-managed program of study from enrolment through to graduation.

Reporting to the Discipline Head, you will provide course-level academic leadership and functional coordination of Subject Coordinators, academic staff and teaching teams. Working closely with the Discipline Head, Student Services and the Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, you will support consistent course delivery, student progression, subject quality and a positive student experience. You will also maintain an active teaching contribution and engage in scholarship and professional development appropriate to your academic classification.

Principle accountabilities:

  • Manage day-to-day course planning, scheduling and delivery across trimesters, campuses and delivery modes, ensuring a consistent and high-quality student experience.

  • Provide course-level academic leadership and coordination to Subject Coordinators, academic staff and sessional/casual teaching teams.

  • Maintain oversight of academic quality, moderation, assessment consistency, course content and subject delivery in line with University standards.

  • Monitor course performance, student progression, retention, success and satisfaction, using data and reporting to drive course-level improvements.

  • Coordinate curriculum delivery, course and subject review processes, accreditation requirements and quality documentation including CCRs and SQRs.

  • Support industry-engaged learning and employability through WIL, live briefs, placements, industry projects and other applied learning experiences.

  • Act as a key academic point of contact for complex student queries, progression matters and academic support, escalating significant risks where required.

  • Contribute to scholarship, professional practice, governance, compliance and risk management at the course level.

Who you are:

You are an organised, student-focused academic leader who enjoys bringing together people, processes and academic standards to deliver a strong course experience. You can coordinate complex academic activity, provide clear guidance to teaching teams and use data and feedback to identify improvements. You communicate effectively with students, academics and professional teams, manage competing priorities with confidence and bring a collaborative, inclusive approach to course leadership.

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification at doctoral or master’s level, or equivalent professional standing and academic experience in the discipline. Significant course coordination or academic leadership experience may also be considered.

  • Relevant professional accreditation, registration or industry standing where applicable to the course.

  • Demonstrated academic leadership experience in higher education, including course or subject coordination and functional leadership of academic and teaching teams.

  • Experience in course delivery, quality assurance and student progression management in a higher education setting.

  • Sound understanding of curriculum design, assessment, moderation, accreditation and higher education quality frameworks, including TEQSA, AQF and HESF.

  • Experience using student data and feedback to inform course-level improvement and support student success.

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practice, positive student experience and culturally safe, student-centred delivery.

  • Demonstrated contribution to scholarship, research and/or professional practice relevant to the discipline, with scholarly outputs appropriate to classification.

  • Experience engaging with industry partners or professional bodies relevant to the course.

  • Strong organisational, communication, stakeholder engagement and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
