Position Overview
As a Director in Compliance Services, you will lead several teams that support operational regulatory compliance for CarMax across a broad array of federal and state laws, industry frameworks, and internal policies. Your team provides insights into process, control, and execution opportunities while proactively engaging with business leaders and advising on risk and solutions. In this role, you will drive three key priorities: 1) create and foster culture and associate development that drives team performance and continued success in maturing the compliance program; 2) develop, support, and/or implement company and department strategies, initiatives, and changes, ensuring compliance is achieved efficiently and effectively; and 3) develop strategic relationships and partnerships that enable team success and further the mission of Compliance Services. You will leverage a broad network of cross-functional leaders and partner closely with Legal to guide your teams in identifying, mitigating, and reporting on compliance risk across the organization.

Team Overview
You will lead a dynamic compliance team that is continually innovating our compliance risk management programs by leveraging data, technology, and automation. This high-performing, diverse team is responsible for operational regulatory compliance across CarMax and its service providers, playing a critical role in safeguarding CarMax’s reputation and advancing best-in-class compliance practices.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of risk and compliance professionals - including talent decisions such as recruiting, hiring, performance reviews, and development plans -while overseeing the team’s work identifying, responding to, and remediating compliance risks and issues.
- Partner closely with Legal and cross-functional leaders to build a shared understanding of legal and regulatory requirements and align on risk across the organization.
- Set the team’s strategic direction and oversee execution and reporting - including methodologies, responsibilities, relationship development, priorities and roadmaps - ensuring alignment with overall CCS priorities and enterprise initiatives.
- Create and/or deliver reporting on team activities, objectives, and results as well as compliance issues, remediation efforts, and escalation of risk to executive leadership and board members.
- Drive a customer-service oriented team culture that delivers value to business partners and strengthens their engagement with Compliance Services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in professional leadership experience.
- 10+ years of supervisory/management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple teams across simultaneous projects and priorities including through major strategic changes.
- High level of courageous leadership and comfort dealing with senior executives; effective at influencing across all levels of the organization, development of relationships, and acting as a change agent to drive results.
- Strong analysis and decision-making skills, including in new or unclear situations, with the ability to make well-informed decisions for both short- and long-term initiatives; leveraging the subject matter expertise of others.
- Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to express ideas effectively in individual and group settings and build strong relationships.
- Advanced level of proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Able to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in risk, audit, and/or compliance programs preferred.
- CPA, CIA, or CISA is a plus.

The annual salary for this position is:
$134,600.00 - $215,400.00May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Benefits:
Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
- To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
- For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
