Branch Assistant Processor (Remote)
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Branch Assistant Processor to support a high-producing mortgage branch in Wisconsin. This remote position plays a critical role in the mortgage loan process, helping move files efficiently from application through closing while delivering exceptional service to borrowers, loan officers, and third-party partners.
The ideal candidate has a strong mortgage processing background, understands industry terminology and documentation requirements, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and can independently manage a pipeline of loans.
What You'll Do:
As a Branch Assistant Processor, you will partner closely with Loan Officer Assistants, Loan Officers, borrowers, and third-party vendors to ensure loan files are complete, accurate, and progressing through the mortgage process on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Review incoming loan files and prepare them for processing and underwriting.
Enter and maintain accurate borrower, property, employment, income, asset, and liability information within the loan origination system.
Review purchase contracts and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Order and track third-party services, including: appraisals, title work, payoffs, employment and asset verifications, and FraudGuard reports.
Follow up with borrowers, employers, title companies, appraisers, and other vendors to obtain required documentation.
Evaluate loan documentation to identify missing information, inconsistencies, or potential issues.
Monitor loan milestones and condition statuses to ensure files remain on track for closing.
Coordinate with underwriting and closing teams to satisfy loan conditions and facilitate timely funding.
Track funding requirements and wire activity to help prevent closing delays.
Prepare and send approval or denial correspondence when applicable.
Maintain accurate records regarding loan status, approvals, denials, and cancellations.
Provide outstanding customer service through both phone and email communication with internal and external clients.
What We're Looking For:
2+ years of experience as a Loan Processor or in a related mortgage operations role preferred
Working knowledge of mortgage loan origination, processing, and underwriting procedures
Experience reviewing loan files and supporting residential mortgage transactions from application through closing
Familiarity with conventional, FHA, and VA loan products
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify missing documentation and resolve file issues efficiently
Comfortable managing a pipeline of 30-40 active loans in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with borrowers, loan officers, real estate agents, title companies, and other third-party partners
Strong organizational and time management skills
Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment
Ability to think critically, solve problems, and adapt to changing priorities
Preferred Experience:
Experience with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Conventional, FHA, and VA products
Experience ordering and reviewing appraisals, payoffs, fraud reports, and other third-party documentation
Proficiency with Encompass or a similar Loan Origination System (LOS)
