Job Description:


Clinical laboratory professional who assists with student laboratory preparing and cleanup, executing student laboratory sessions, providing student feedback during lab, and assisting the adjunct faculty member and program director with additional tasks, as needed.


Job Summary:

The position includes the facilitation of experiential learning. This person will collaborate with faculty in designing, planning, implementing and/or evaluating laboratory education and lab activities. They will also assist with feedback of assignments to support student achievement of MLS program outcomes.  


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate student learning through the coordination and delivery of lab-based educational experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, plan, implement, and evaluate experiential and learning activities that align with the MLS curriculum and program outcomes.
  • Assist students when learning new laboratory procedures, operations, and interpretation exercises.
  • Assist instructors and program director in assessing student psychomotor and affective performance during laboratory activities and laboratory competency assessment  
  • Provide timely and constructive verbal and written feedback to students on course assignments and performance in experiential and simulation activities.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related science
  • Current MLS(ASCP), MLS(ASCPi), or MLS(AMT) certification.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 and related applications including Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Planner.

Working Conditions:

  • Laboratory preparation and cleanup is dependent on clear instructions from adjunct faculty member or program director
  • Laboratory assistance during the laboratory session will be in addition to the adjunct faculty member, so there will always be two instructors present.
  • All work associated with this position must be performed within the state of Michigan.

Contract position; Varies greatly,  up to 29 hours per week on an as-needed, inconsistent basis (similar to PRN in the clinical setting); Flexibility required relative to hours and scheduling.
