INDUS supports the planning, coordination, and installation activities of Combat System and Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence (C5I) Systems in aircraft carriers, and other strike group or strike force units (including but not limited to LHA, LHD, LPD, and other L-Class units). Our team is directly responsible for supporting the planning, budgeting, and execution of New Construction (SCN) testing and modernization efforts in support of the Modernization and Installation Department (N Department), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD).

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, the System Deployment Technician installs and automates software for Naval ships and shore facilities. The role includes writing custom scripts to automate setups and leading the shift from old hardware to modern cloud and virtual environments. The position is also responsible for troubleshooting complex installation errors, repairing network cables, and writing clear technical guides on the CVN/L-Class Support Services contract. This position is located in Keyport, WA.

What You'll Do

• Plan, coordinate, and lead all hardware and software installation, integration, modernization, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and closeout activities for assigned systems.
• Develop installation strategies, technical plans, schedules, milestones, work sequences, POA&Ms, and supporting execution documentation.
• Create and maintain installation schedules; monitor execution; identify impacts, risks, constraints, and required adjustments.
• Coordinate installation and technical activities with Government representatives, Ship’s Force, shipyards, engineering organizations, installation teams, OEMs, and other stakeholders.Review and validate installation prerequisites, including drawings, ship-check results, configuration data, equipment availability, GFE, materials, access, shipyard services, and test support.
• Perform and oversee hands-on installation and integration of system hardware, software, components, racks, cabling, and supporting infrastructure.
• Conduct and support ship-checks, pre-installation validation activities, and preparation of Work Authorization Forms and required shipyard documentation.
• Ensure personnel understand applicable installation requirements, documentation, safety standards, configuration controls, and test requirements.
• Lead daily installation execution, assign and sequence work, adjust activities as needed, and oversee workmanship, compliance, configuration, safety, and schedule performance.
• Provide technical direction, resolve routine issues, and escalate significant risks or deficiencies to appropriate leadership.
• Ensure installation activities comply with applicable shipboard, safety, tag-out, configuration-control, quality, and technical requirements.
• Install, configure, integrate, update, and verify software and system configurations, including automation through custom scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, interface, configuration, interoperability, network, and equipment issues.
• Develop, review, and execute test plans, procedures, checklists, and verification documentation; support Stage Testing and system-level functional verification.
• Document test results, discrepancies, corrective actions, configuration changes, and final system status; coordinate resolution with appropriate authorities.
• Track technical issues, discrepancies, action items, condition reports, and other open requirements through completion.
• Maintain accurate installation records, configuration baselines, technical documentation, test documentation, and closeout materials.
• Support configuration-management requirements to ensure installed systems align with the approved technical baselines.
• Coordinate material requirements, monitor GFE and installation material status, and ensure availability to support scheduled work.
• Participate in technical reviews, installation-planning meetings, modernization working groups, configuration reviews, test-planning activities, and readiness assessments.
• Capture and track installation action items, responsible parties, suspense dates, and completion status.
• Provide installation status, schedule updates, milestone progress, risks, technical issues, testing status, and discrepancy updates to leadership.
• Identify lessons learned and recommend improvements to installation planning, execution processes, technical documentation, sequencing, and testing workflows.
• Research, design, and develop engineering guides, installation processes, user manuals, and configuration documentation.
• Test, align, troubleshoot, and repair complex cable assemblies and networking cables used in system integration.
• Provide technical instruction, mentoring, and guidance to installation technicians and supporting personnel.
• Participate as a subject matter expert in candidate interviews and provide technical assessments when requested.
• Provide technical support to business development, capture, and proposal activities involving installation, modernization, and system-integration capabilities.
• Safeguard CUI, technical data, proprietary information, and other sensitive information in accordance with requirements.
• Execute responsibilities as outlined in the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and applicable labor category.
• Bid and proposal support if requested.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required. 
• Three (3) years of experience in basic scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to automate tasks and deploy software.
• Two (2) years of experience supporting system installation, integration, configuration, modernization, troubleshooting, testing, or related engineering support work.
• Three (3) years of experience supporting installation and integration of hardware and software.
• Two (2) years of experience coordinating installation activities, technical schedules, POA&Ms, milestones, testing, and discrepancy resolution.
• Three (3) years of experience interpreting engineering drawings, installation documentation, technical manuals, configuration information, and technical requirements.
• Three (3) years of experience in coordinating the work of technical installation personnel.
• Ability to work alternate shifts, extended hours, weekends, or other schedules when required by installation or platform availability schedules.
• Ability to obtain and maintain access to applicable government facilities, naval installations, shipyards, surface ships, submarines, and other authorized work locations as required.
• Ability to qualify for and safely use applicable tools, electronic test equipment, PPE, and specialized installation equipment.
• Ability to satisfy applicable shipboard, industrial, shipyard, and installation-team training or qualification requirements.
• Ability to travel extensively when required to support DSS installations, modernization availabilities, testing, troubleshooting, and other technical activities.
• The field engineering portion of this work requires physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing. These actions are required to perform regular shop activities, inspections, observations, and system studies in industrial work areas, weapon facilities, and on-board submarines.
• Read and interpret materials such as complex diagrams and manuals.
• Ability to perform hands-on installation and technical work for extended periods in shipboard, shipyard, industrial, laboratory, and other technical environments.
• Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Must possess strong time management skills.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
• Travel Required ~25% travel required. 
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications: 

• Familiarity with Red Hat-based Linux systems, including the ability to write basic scripts to install software packages and verify equipment.
• Three (3) years of experience with remote software installation tools, virtual environments, and cloud-based solutions is desired.
• Familiarity with networking hardware and running diagnostic commands to check device status and verify network connectivity
• Prior U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, shipboard, shipyard, AIT, modernization, or comparable installation experience.
• Experience with Navy PICO, RMMCO, AIT, modernization, alteration, work-control, and installation processes.
• Experience performing or supporting Stage Testing, system integration testing, verification, and technical closeout.
• Experience supporting C5I/C5ISR, combat systems, information systems, network systems, or similar Navy hardware/software installations.
• Experience developing installation schedules and POA&Ms for incorporation into a program IMS.
• Experience coordinating with Ship's Force, Government technical authorities, shipyards, planning activities, OEMs, and other installation organizations.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking. 
• Ability to lift and carry equipment, tools, components, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds individually and heavier items with appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
• The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities. 
• Ability to use required PPE and safely operate applicable hand tools, power tools, electronic test equipment, diagnostic equipment, and specialized installation equipment.
• Ability to work around electronic equipment, racks, cabling, machinery, temporary services, ladders, passageways, staging, and active industrial work areas.

 

INDUS aims to provide a competitive compensation package, including a strong pay for performance rewards approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $39.78/hr - $43.00/hr.
