POSITION SPECIFICS

The Penn State Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking a full-time Human Research Technologist to work on developing, testing, and implementing Food as Medicine initiatives. This position will include working with a community-engaged, dynamic, fast paced, interdisciplinary research team. The primary role of this hands-on position will be to conduct the day-to-day operations of existing and newly funded NIH clinical trials. The ideal candidate will be passionate about finding ways to help individuals and families improve their health through diet including nutrition, culinary skills, and gardening.

The HRT will assist our research project manager and study team with IRB protocols and associated documents and approvals; recruiting, consenting, and retaining research participants, data collection, data management and reporting. Other projects will involve working with an interdisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians (including epidemiologists, MD/DOs, psychologists, registered dietitians, social workers, nurse practitioners, and other allied health professionals). This candidate must have exceptional oral and written communication skills. Additional qualifications include:

* Human subjects-related quantitative research experience.

* Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and establish research workflows and project reporting.

* A willingness to collect biomarkers such as blood, urine, blood pressure, weight, saliva, either in person or remotely via zoom.

* Experience with human subject’s research projects including experience operationalizing study protocols.

* IRB experience

* The ability to work independently and in teams. 

* The ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities in a professional, positive manner.  

* Flexibility to work in-person or remotely, including some evening hours. * The candidate must have reliable transportation for local, reimbursed travel, as needed.

This candidate must have an exceptional research background and a range of skills needed to coordinate participants and workflows of research studies. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are a must. Also required is demonstrated experience with health-related data collection (REDCap, Excel) in addition to familiarity with social media content development.

Candidates should be able to work independently and in a team environment. They must have the ability to contribute to the Penn State College of Medicine and FCM’s missions. Access to reliable transportation for local travel within the Penn State area is required. Flexibility with work schedule and ability to attend community events (days, evenings, weekends) is also important. While some remote work is possible, much of the work will be done in person.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Human Research Technologist - Health and Medicine - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Human Research Technologist - Health and Medicine - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

 

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $44,628.00 - $71,340.00.
