Job Description:

Parsons is looking for a talented Rolling Stock Engineer to join our team. The Rolling Stock Engineer will be part of a team responsible for the technical integrity of the rolling stock, providing technical guidance on rolling stock design, development, and safety. The project includes at-grade, elevated, and underground tunnel rail sections, with passenger rolling stock operating under automatic operation. Reporting to the Lead Rolling Stock Engineer, the Rolling Stock Engineer will perform design reviews, facilitate the resolution of any construction or design issues, ensure contractual compliance, and ensure smooth integration with other systems such as signalling, platform screen doors, communications, and civil infrastructure. The chosen candidate will be an expert in the delivery of rolling stock and the acceptance of its assets.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Supporting the Lead Rolling Stock Engineer in project delivery by providing expert technical advice and support with regards to rolling stock to the wider project team

  • Defining and developing interface specifications to support the supplier design

  • Liaising with the project controls team to determine schedules and monitor design progress

  • Establishing and maintaining adherence to project deliverables with respect to safety, quality, cost and schedule

  • Analysing the  rolling stock related RAMS performance against the client’s design specifications

  • Analysing the rolling stock related operation and maintenance.

  • Reviewing and approving the Design Build contractor’s rolling stock system and sub-system designs to ensure compliance with the client’s requirements

  • Reviewing and monitoring the rolling stock design specifications and standards for all subsystems such as  HVAC, door control, propulsion and control, auxiliary power, wiring, automatic train control (ATS),  carbody, brakes, couplers ,gangway and bogies

  • Overseeing the assessment of differing train configurations, passenger capacity, interface problems and performance quantifications

  • Coordinating and monitoring the rolling stock related interfaces and integration with other disciplines such as platform screen doors, signaling, telecoms and power  supply

  • Conducting technical investigations or fault analyses

  • Conducting site visit and inspections to verify and monitor rolling stock works quality and progress

  • Ensuring all reporting requirements, are met and maintain accurate records concerning rolling stock related data

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Mechanical / Electrical Engineering degree, diploma or professional qualification

  • Minimum 12 years mechanical engineering work experience

  • Experience of working on large, complex and multidisciplinary projects

  • Current or recent broad knowledge of the rail industry

  • Significant technical experience relevant to the design delivery of the mechanical aspects of rolling stock

  • Demonstrable experience in the design of rolling stock

  • Strong understanding of railway approvals, practices and standards including EN 50126, EN 50129, IEC 61133, IEC1287 and NFPA 130

  • Strong understanding of railway approvals, practices and standards including UIC- 615, UIC-515, IEC 61133 and NFPA 130,  EN12663,EN15827

  • Railway interiors and paneling experience

  • Working experience with Bombardier’s/Siemens rolling stock

  • Chartered Engineer status

  • Knowledge of rail communication concepts and principles

  • Knowledge of overhead traction power reticulation systems

  • Strong client-facing skills

  • Excellent English language skills (written and verbal)
