Description
The IT Support Specialist – Web Applications is a full-time, classified service, hourly position within the IT Services Department of Shelby County. The role focuses on the design, development, accessibility, usability, and ongoing management of County websites and web applications; coordinating projects with stakeholders; analyzing web performance; troubleshooting technical issues; and developing documentation, standards, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain County websites and web-based content.
- Apply web application security best practices and comply with County information technology, cybersecurity, privacy, and accessibility standards.
- Develop accessible, responsive, and user-friendly web interfaces.
- Evaluate and improve websites and web applications to ensure accessibility and usability for users with varying abilities and assistive technologies.
- Work with County departments to gather requirements and translate business needs into web solutions.
- Review websites for accessibility, usability, content quality, and functionality.
- Troubleshoot web applications and coordinate resolution of technical issues.
- Monitor website performance and analytics and make recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and procedures.
- Coordinate web projects from requirements through implementation.
- Provide training and technical guidance to County departments.
- Define basic project scopes and coordinate projects with minimal oversight.
- Provide web-related technical assistance and support to County offices and partnering entities as needed
- Performs other IT project work as required.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
Minimum Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency in HTML and CSS, with working knowledge of JavaScript and responsive web design principles.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Willing to work nonstandard hours and more than 40 hours per week as needed.
- Willing to travel to and work at multiple job sites throughout Shelby County.
- Valid Driver's license
Preferred Requirements:
Experience with any of the following: SQL, REST APIs, Python, React, ASP.NET, CMS platforms, analytics platforms, web application security.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather extremes, chemical substances, dust, fumes, noise, humidity, odors, work on lift equipment at heights up to 85' and must be able to climb and work from a 20 foot vertical ladder.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is heavy in nature and consists of standing, lifting, carrying and pushing of up to 100 pounds with assistance if needed, bending, walking, using hand and fingers to operate tools. Must have good vision to read and make necessary repairs. Must be comfortable working on lift equipment at heights up to 85' and must be able to climb and work from a 20 foot vertical ladder.EXAMINATIONS
No written or performance examination will be required for this position.
