- Call up appropriate welding programs on the robot teach pendant or control panel.
- Operate robotic welding cells (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Motoman, KUKA) in accordance with safety standards and production schedules.
- Quality Control & Inspection:
- Perform initial piece and ongoing visual inspections of completed welds to ensure penetration, joint integrity, and cosmetic quality.
- Measure finished parts using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, go/no-go gauges) against engineering blueprints.
- Identify defect trends (e.g., porosity, spatter, undercut, warp) and adjust welding parameters or report issues to lead technicians/programmers.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Perform daily preventive maintenance on the welding cell (clearing spatter, changing contact tips/nozzles, checking wire feed, inspecting anti-spatter fluid).
- Make minor adjustments to torch alignment, wire speed, or fixture clamping as needed.
- Document production counts, quality defects, and equipment downtime logs.
- Safety & Workplace Standards:
- Maintain a clean, organized work area adhering to 5S principles.
- Strictly follow all safety guidelines, including wearing proper PPE (welding helmet/respirator, leather sleeves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots).
Required Qualifications & Skills

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience operating robotic welding equipment or automated manufacturing machinery.
- Basic knowledge of MIG (GMAW) or TIG (GTAW) welding processes.
- Technical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols.
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools (calipers, protractors, gauges).
- Basic understanding of robotic teach pendants and PLC interface panels is a plus.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted on a regular basis.
- Capacity to stand, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts).
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from an accredited welding program or trade school (e.g., AWS certification).
- Hands-on experience with manual MIG welding for touch-up work or rework.
- Experience with specific robotic systems (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman).
