Position Summary
Reporting to the Automation Manager, the Automation Maintenance Technician provides hands-on support for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated systems and equipment that power pharmacy fulfillment operations. This role helps ensure automated equipment runs reliably and safely to support high-volume prescription fulfillment.
We are seeking an Automation Maintenance Technician to partner closely with Automation Specialists, engineering, and pharmacy operations teams to minimize downtime, maintain equipment performance, and support compliant, high-quality operations. This position plays an important role in keeping automated systems running smoothly as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and calibration of automated fulfillment equipment and robotics
- Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, electrical, and PLC-controlled equipment issues to minimize downtime
- Follows Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc-flash, and other electrical safety procedures when servicing automated equipment
- Supports installation, testing, and commissioning of new automated equipment and system upgrades
- Documents maintenance activities, equipment performance, and downtime incidents using the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and in line with SOPs
- Tracks spare parts usage and flags reorder needs to support parts availability
- Partners with Automation Specialists and Engineers to escalate complex issues and support root cause analysis
- Assists with training staff on proper use and basic troubleshooting of automated systems
- Monitors equipment KPIs (uptime, error rates) and flags trends to the Automation Manager
- Follows all safety, quality, and regulatory procedures during equipment operation and maintenance
Qualifications
Education
- Associate's degree or technical/vocational certification in automation, electronics, mechatronics, industrial maintenance, or related field (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field (Preferred)
Licensure/Certification
- Automation, electrical, or PLC-related technical certification (e.g., Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, journeyman electrician license, or NIMS industrial maintenance certification) (Preferred)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (Preferred)
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience maintaining or troubleshooting automated production or material handling equipment (Required)
- Experience with PLCs, robotics, or industrial control systems (Preferred)
- Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, medical device, or regulated manufacturing environments (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting principles; preventive maintenance practices; and basic automation and production workflow concepts (Required)
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety practices (Required)
- Knowledge of PLCs, robotics, or automated production systems (Preferred)
- Knowledge of pharmacy, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing environments (Preferred)
- Attention to detail and documentation skills, including CMMS use (Required)
- Ability to follow SOPs and safety protocols (Required)
- Communication and collaboration skills with technicians, specialists, and engineers (Required)
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-growth environments (Required)
Work Environment
- Location: On-site
- Schedule: Production floor coverage currently spans 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, staffed across multiple technicians working 8-hour shifts. As the business expands production hours, this role may be required to support on-call or emergency response coverage outside standard shift hours.
- Hands-on work performed on the production floor alongside automated equipment and robotics
- Regular coordination with Automation Specialists, the Automation Manager, and Engineering teams
Key Essential Functions
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and move around production equipment for extended periods
- Must be able to lift and move equipment components as needed (up to 50 lbs.)
- Must be able to work safely near moving machinery and follow all required PPE protocols
- Must be able to work on a computer to document maintenance activities
