Lead Veterinarian – Stratford, CT
An established small animal veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Lead Veterinarian to provide high-quality patient care while serving as a clinical resource for the veterinary team.This position is designed for a veterinarian who enjoys primary care medicine, values clinical autonomy, and is comfortable sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues. The practice provides a modern clinical environment, experienced support staff, and access to specialty and emergency resources when advanced care is needed.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive primary and preventive care for companion animal patients.
- Perform wellness examinations, medical evaluations, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery as appropriate.
- Develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans for individual patients.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to associate veterinarians and support team members.
- Serve as a clinical resource for challenging cases and medical decision-making.
- Promote consistent standards of patient care and professional practice.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care.
- Maintain thorough and accurate patient records.
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians, assistants, management, and specialty providers.
- Support a positive, respectful, and learning-focused team culture.
- Participate in continuing education and contribute to ongoing clinical development.
- Utilize available diagnostic technology and specialty resources when appropriate.
Qualifications
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree.
- Active veterinary license or eligibility for licensure.
- Previous experience practicing primary care veterinary medicine.
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, or support other veterinary professionals.
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
- Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- Commitment to high-quality, compassionate patient care.
- Interest in continued professional growth and knowledge sharing.
