Description

The Role
The Director, Finance Transformation, will help shape the future of Finance at Moderna. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance and Treasury, this role will lead the transformation agenda across Moderna’s Record-to-Analyze (R2A) value chain, spanning FP&A, Accounting, Tax, and other areas.

Sitting at the intersection of Finance, technology, data, and enterprise transformation, the Director will develop and drive an integrated roadmap to modernize how Finance operates—from planning, forecasting, and management reporting. The role will identify and deliver opportunities to simplify processes, modernize technology and data, deploy automation and AI, and build scalable capabilities that improve the speed, quality, control, and effectiveness of financial decision-making.

The Director will also lead the overall Finance transformation portfolio, providing the governance, prioritization, and cross-functional orchestration necessary to translate Finance priorities into measurable outcomes. This individual will lead critical initiatives from strategy and design through implementation, adoption, and value realization. Functional leaders will retain accountability for their respective processes, while this role will drive the integrated capabilities and transformation required to support them.

Here’s What You’ll Do
Finance Transformation & Record-to-Analyze

  • Develop and lead an integrated transformation roadmap across the R2A value chain, spanning FP&A, Accounting, and Tax, aligned with Finance and enterprise priorities.
  • Partner with functional leaders to identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and redesign Finance processes and ways of working while preserving clear functional ownership and controls.
  • Translate strategic priorities into executable transformation initiatives with clear objectives, business cases, resource requirements, milestones, risks, and success measures.
  • Lead selected high-priority, cross-functional Finance transformations from opportunity identification and design through implementation, adoption, and benefits realization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Finance cycle times, data quality, controls, scalability, user experience, and capacity for higher-value analysis and decision support.

Technology, Data, Analytics & AI

  • Shape the Finance technology, data, and analytics capabilities required to enable the transformation agenda, in close partnership with Digital and Finance stakeholders.
  • Own and advance Finance data and master-data capabilities, including dimensions, hierarchies, mappings, standards, governance, and integration across financial systems.
  • Develop scalable enterprise financial analytics, management P&L frameworks, and decision-support capabilities that improve visibility into performance, cost structure, productivity, and resource allocation.
  • Identify and implement practical opportunities for AI, intelligent automation, and self-service analytics across Finance workflows, reporting, forecasting, close, and analysis.
  • Partner with Digital to translate Finance requirements into scalable architecture, system enhancements, integrations, and solutions, with appropriate controls, data integrity, and sustainability.

Transformation Portfolio & Execution

  • Own the integrated Finance transformation portfolio and roadmap, providing visibility into priorities, sequencing, dependencies, resources, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Monitor delivery and value realization across the transformation portfolio, proactively identifying issues and opportunities requiring leadership attention.
  • Build scalable transformation and program-management disciplines, tools, and standards that strengthen execution across Finance.
  • Serve as a connector across Finance, Digital, HR, and other stakeholders to ensure interdependencies are understood and transformation efforts are coordinated.

Change, Adoption & Capability Building

  • Develop and coordinate change, communication, training, and adoption strategies for major Finance transformation initiatives.
  • Partner with process owners and subject-matter experts to ensure new capabilities are embedded into day-to-day Finance operations and deliver intended business outcomes.
  • Establish measures of adoption and effectiveness and use feedback and data to continuously improve processes, tools, and ways of working.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance and Digital and influence effectively in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Help foster a culture of continuous improvement, disciplined execution, innovation, and data-driven decision-making across Finance.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Finance transformation, FP&A, Accounting, corporate finance, management consulting, finance systems, data and analytics, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of core Finance processes and the Record-to-Analyze value chain, including planning, forecasting, management reporting, accounting/close, and related data and analytical capabilities.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle EPM, and other enterprise Finance technology and data environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional transformation initiatives from strategy and design through implementation and adoption.
  • Experience developing transformation roadmaps, establishing governance, prioritizing initiatives, and managing dependencies across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate complex business, financial, process, and technology issues into practical solutions.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead across Finance, Digital, and business teams without relying on direct authority.
  • Strong communication, executive presence, business judgment, and organizational skills.
  • A desire to make an impact as part of a high-growth, transformational company that is Bold, Relentless, Curious, and Collaborative.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Prior experience in biopharma, life sciences, or another complex, regulated industry.
  • Experience leading Finance transformation in a complex, global public-company environment.
  • Experience applying AI, automation, advanced analytics, or digital capabilities to Finance processes and decision support.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar enterprise analytics platforms.
  • Experience with Finance operating-model, process-design, change-management, or value-realization methodologies.
  • Prior management consulting, Finance transformation, or enterprise program leadership experience.
  • Experience leading or developing Finance transformation, systems, data, analytics, or program-management professionals.
  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or relevant advanced degree.
