Course Description:

It is vital for healthcare service provider’s policy leaders, analysts, and healthcare managers to gain an understanding of how data science can be used to positively support the decision-making
processes of the health services, specially in the field of medical informatics and medical diagnosis.

A knowledge and skill base in data sciences is becoming an increasing desirable for individuals working in developing medical informatic applications. A strong understanding of data science
enables medical engineers to forecast emerging trends, identify potential future behavior, discover patterns, inform policy, and generate meaning from the vast amount of data that streams in and through the healthcare work environments. Essential data science concepts relevant to practical applications are covered in this course including problem formulation; data acquisition; data pre-preprocessing, modeling, simulation, and analysis. Hands on experience with data science tools, techniques and technologies will be discussed. Data integration, analysis, and presentation of results; comprehensive applications data warehousing and mining, data in areas medical informatics will be explained.

Requirements:

Candidate Profile:

  • PhD in Biomedical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline with specialization.
  • Strong background and demonstrable expertise in the subject.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensing as professional engineers with a Canadian engineering regulator.

Teaching mode:

Courses will be taught in person.
