• Model and verify optical performance, including beam propagation, polarization behavior, optical losses and tolerance budgets.
• Plan and support optical verification in the lab: define test setups, perform measurements and correlate results with simulations.
• Define technical requirements for optical systems, sub-systems and components, and support procurement with review and release of optical drawings.
• Support qualification of optical components and prototype systems, partly under clean room conditions.
• Drive design trades with opto-mechanics, thermal, electronics and control teams to meet performance, size, cost and manufacturability targets.
• Optional: Optimize optical systems for stray and false light using FRED or ASAP.

What you bring with you

• Required experience: Minimum 6 years of hands-on professional experience in the field.
• University degree in Physics, Optics/Photonics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of hands-on professional experience in optical design, simulation and lab verification, ideally for space or airborne systems.
• Proven hands-on proficiency in ZEMAX OpticStudio; experience with COMSOL Multiphysics or STOP analysis is a plus.
• Hands-on lab experience aligning (infrared) optical systems, building test setups and operating optical measurement equipment.
