A Day in the Life

Join Medtronic as a Mechanical Engineering Manager, play a key role in the design and development of innovative mechanical and electromechanical medical products and systems across Research and Technology (R&T), New Product Development (NPD), and Released Product Engineering (RPE). You will lead and develop a team of experienced Mechanical Engineers responsible for the R&D efforts within Cranial and Spinal Technologies Platform/Solutions organization. You will provide both people and technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, from early concepts and feasibility through detailed design, verification, design transfer, production support, and post-market product improvements. The team operates in a highly regulated environment and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality mechanical and electromechanical solutions in accordance with applicable medical device development processes and Quality System requirements.

You will work in a global matrixed organization and collaborate regularly with colleagues, managers, technical experts, and cross-functional stakeholders across international sites. The role is responsible for directing professional employees, managing engineering functions, and driving business objectives. The role is primarily performed on-site in Caesarea due to the hands-on, hardware-oriented nature of the work.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Mechanical Engineers, including goal setting, performance management, regular one-on-one meetings, and career development.

• Plan, prioritize, and direct mechanical engineering activities across sustaining engineering, platform improvements, and new product development.

• Provide technical leadership for the development of complex mechanical and electromechanical medical devices from concept through verification, design transfer, and production readiness.

• Ensure engineering activities and documentation comply with Design Control, Quality System requirements, internal procedures, and applicable medical device regulations.

• Lead technical investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and improvements related to released products and production.

• Manage resources and priorities across multiple projects while supporting program schedules, product quality, and business objectives.

• Collaborate with global and cross-functional partners, including Systems, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Service, and Program Management.

• Coordinate activities with suppliers, consultants, and manufacturing partners to support development, production, and timely delivery.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Proven people-management experience leading a mechanical development team within an R&D organization, including responsibility for performance management, employee development, work prioritization, and delivery.
• Strong experience developing mechanical and electromechanical products, including mechanisms, precision assemblies, and complex systems.
• Experience supporting products across multiple lifecycle stages, including new product development, design transfer, sustaining engineering, and released-product support.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Excellent English communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and matrixed organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

• People-management experience in the medical device industry and/or within a global organization.

• Experience with Design Control, verification and validation, risk management, and regulated product-development processes.

• Experience with robotic systems, surgical platforms, capital equipment, or complex electromechanical systems.

• Familiarity with SolidWorks, PLM systems, and Engineering Change Management processes.

• Experience working with geographically distributed teams, external suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
