Production Scheduler
The Production Scheduler is responsible for planning, coordinating, and maintaining production schedules within multiple roto-molding manufacturing facility. This role ensures production orders are scheduled efficiently and completed on time while balancing customer demand, production capacity, labor availability, raw material requirements, equipment availability, and inventory levels. The Production Scheduler works closely with production, purchasing, shipping, customer service, sales, and management to support on-time delivery and efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
• Schedule production orders based on customer requirements, priorities, inventory levels, and available capacity.
• Coordinate production schedules with customer delivery requirements and shipping timelines.
• Review sales orders, forecasts, and demand requirements to determine production needs.
• Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to address changes, delays, or priorities.
• Identify scheduling conflicts and communicate potential delays to the appropriate departments.
• Coordinate with production supervisors to ensure scheduled jobs are completed on time.
• Balance production workloads across plants, machines, departments, shifts, and available resources.
• Consider machine capacity, mold availability, labor requirements, tooling, and material availability when creating schedules.
• Coordinate with purchasing to ensure raw materials and components are available when needed.
• Monitor inventory levels and identify potential material shortages that could impact production.
• Work with purchasing and suppliers to communicate urgent material requirements.
• Maintain accurate production schedules and update ERP systems with current
information.
• Ensure production orders, work orders, quantities, and due dates are accurately entered and maintained.
• Monitor open production orders and identify jobs that are behind schedule.
• Track production performance against planned schedules and communicate variances.
• Coordinate with shipping and customer service regarding completed orders and delivery requirements.
• Prioritize production based on customer commitments, inventory requirements, and business needs.
• Communicate schedule changes and production priorities to supervisors and production personnel.
• Assist with capacity planning and identify potential production constraints.
• Support demand planning and forecasting activities.
• Analyze production requirements to help maintain appropriate finished goods and work-in-process inventory levels.
• Coordinate production changes resulting from rush orders, engineering changes, material shortages, equipment downtime, or customer requests.
• Maintain clear communication between production, purchasing, sales, customer service, and shipping.
• Assist management with identifying opportunities to improve production flow and scheduling efficiency.
• Develop and maintain scheduling reports and production planning tools.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including:
•On-time production completion
• On-time customer delivery
• Production schedule adherence
• Machine utilization
• Production capacity
• Inventory levels
• Material availability
• Production backlog
• Lead or support corrective actions related to production scheduling, capacity, material, or delivery issues.
• Promote a safe, organized, and productive manufacturing environment.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Typical day-to-day functions:
• Review customer orders, production requirements, and current production schedules.
• Review production status from the previous shift/day and identify incomplete or delayed orders.
• Create and adjust daily production schedules based on priorities and available capacity.
• Meet with production supervisors to review machine availability, labor, molds, materials, and production priorities.
• Monitor raw material availability and communicate shortages to purchasing and management.
• Review ERP/MRP information for open orders, inventory, work orders, and due dates.
• Coordinate with customer service and sales regarding priority orders and customer delivery requirements.
• Adjust schedules for equipment downtime, staffing issues, quality concerns, material shortages, or changing customer priorities.
• Monitor production progress throughout the day and make schedule adjustments as needed.
• Communicate changes in priorities and schedules to production personnel.
• Review completed production and coordinate with shipping regarding orders ready for shipment.
• Review production metrics and identify opportunities to improve schedule adherence and production flow.
Skills and Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2–5 years of production scheduling, manufacturing planning, supply chain, or related experience.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience using ERP systems for production planning and scheduling.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to understand production capacity, material requirements, inventory, and customer demand.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Ability to analyze production data and make scheduling decisions based on available information.
• Ability to communicate effectively with production, purchasing, sales, customer service, shipping, and management.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
• Experience with roto-molding or plastics manufacturing preferred.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, inventory management, and supply chain principles preferred.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
• Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the facility.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees across multiple departments.
• Ability to work in an environment with manufacturing equipment, noise, temperature variations, and other typical plant conditions.
Compensation
• $55,000 DOE
