Description
DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Chief Plant Operator - Water, perform all duties related to the proper performance of the City’s Water Treatment Plant.ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTION STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through:
Position may require moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions, along with some combination of climbing and balancing. May be subject to sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform all duties related to the proper performance of the City’s Water Treatment Plant.
- Perform routine laboratory duties and log/interpret readings from meters, charts, and instruments.
- Collect samples and perform various tests; check, maintain, and record readings from equipment such as analyzers, scales, pumps, and totalizers.
- Monitor/control plant equipment and activity using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and troubleshoot system malfunctions/failures.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations relating to prescribed operating and safety standards.
- Identify and perform routine/preventative maintenance and minor repairs to machinery and equipment.
- Receive after-hour emergency calls and dispatch appropriate personnel.
- Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have basic knowledge of machinery and equipment such as pumps, controls, motors, chlorinators, etc.
- Must be able to learn computer operations and perform related lab tests for chemical content, pH, and presence of biological organisms.
- Requires ability to obtain (WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR) TCEQ Class “C” Water certification (employee shall be subject to termination if licenses are not secured within this timeframe); current certification and/or knowledge of current water treatment processes preferred.
- Must be able to work varying hours and irregular schedule including shifts in excess of 12 hours; work indoors/outdoors in varying weather conditions; and maintain a courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public and other staff members.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and driving record that meets or exceeds City standards.
