1ST SHIFT (United States of America)SUMMARY: The Director Hog Procurement leads the development, implementation, and administration of hog procurement programs for Tyson Fresh Meats, represents Tyson at industry events, and serves as backup to the Vice President of Hog Procurement. The role evaluates procurement relationships with independent suppliers and develops innovative programs that balance the needs of producers, suppliers, and Tyson. Examples include cutout-based, lean-index, and CME-based pricing programs, which support approximately 93 percent of Tyson Fresh Meats’ hog slaughter volume.
Following implementation, the Director Hog Procurement oversees ongoing program administration and serves as the primary decision-maker for supplier-related issues. Success requires creative thinking, strong analytical skills, and close collaboration with the Vice President of Procurement, area supervisors, and Accounting to design and launch effective programs.
To maintain a strong understanding of the supplier base and build sustainable supplier relationships, the Director of Procurement works closely with suppliers, buyers, and area supervisors through regular communication and networking. The role also represents Tyson at state and national industry events attended by key hog-production decision-makers, including state pork producer conferences, the Leman Conference, World Pork Expo, Century 21, and the National Industry Pork Conference.
The position is based in the Midwest to support timely access to supplier meetings. It also has operational responsibility for in-plant procurement activities, with two or three Procurement Supervisors reporting directly to the role. Responsibilities include managing buyer and production staffing, conducting annual performance reviews, and addressing disciplinary matters. This breadth of experience prepares the position to serve as backup to the Vice President of Procurement when needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: College degree or equivalent experience in hog procurement
Experience: 5 plus years as an area procurement supervisor. Previous buying experience with good overall industry knowledge. Minimum of 10 years of pork procurement, production, or operations.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and leadership skills required.
Travel: Frequent travel is required in working with suppliers area supervisors and industry events.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has functional supervisory responsibility over all issues associated with procurement programs and all issues associated with his/her position as back up to Vice President of Procurement. Supervise plant and field procurement staff.
Special Skills: Good organization skills detail oriented and strong analytical skills are required. Written contracts execution as well as management of contract database.
