We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our Kawerau manufacturing team and play a key role in maintaining the reliability, performance, and safety of our converting equipment and plant assets. You'll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact through preventative maintenance, equipment improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives that support operational excellence.


About the Role

As a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter, you will be responsible for safely maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving converting equipment and supporting plant assets. Working closely with production, engineering, and maintenance teams, you will help maximise equipment reliability, minimise downtime, and support the delivery of high-quality products.


This hands-on role offers variety across planned maintenance, breakdown response, shutdown activities, and reliability improvement projects, providing opportunities to further develop your technical capabilities while contributing to a safe and efficient manufacturing operation.


What You Will Do

  • Carry out preventative and predictive maintenance activities in line with maintenance plans.
  • Complete inspections, lubrication routines, condition monitoring activities, and scheduled shutdown work.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and perform effective fault finding and repairs.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems and components, including:
    • Bearings, Gearboxes, Drives, Conveyors, Pneumatic systems, Hydraulic systems, Pumps and rotating equipment
  • Accurately record maintenance activities and equipment history within SAP or CMMS systems.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support TPM and asset reliability programmes focused on improving equipment performance and maintainability.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and modification of plant and equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with contractors, service providers, and internal teams.
  • Promote and uphold strong health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • A trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter Turner, Mechanical Engineering Tradesperson, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing, processing, FMCG, paper, timber, or similar production environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Computer literacy and willingness to work with SAP or other CMMS systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safe work practices and continuous improvement.
  • Exposure to TPM or Reliability-Centered Maintenance environments.
