Senior/Engineer (Healthcare Engineering Center) / School of Engineering

[What you will be working on]

  • Design, develop, and test electronic hardware and embedded systems for healthcare engineering applications, including analogue and digital circuit design, PCB design, firmware development, and system integration.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and validate prototypes and instrumentation systems through laboratory testing, system verification, and performance characterisation.
  • Analyse and resolve complex technical challenges independently, applying sound engineering principles, professional judgement, and practical experience.
  • Lead and deliver funded R&D, industry collaboration, and consultancy projects, including technical planning, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, milestone tracking, and project execution.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, design files, bills of materials, test plans, technical reports, and user documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including industry, healthcare, clinical, research, and government partners, to develop and translate innovative technologies into practical applications.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technical officers, students, and project teams, while promoting engineering excellence, quality standards, and laboratory safety.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop innovative technologies and solutions with potential for commercialisation, intellectual property creation, and industry impact.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in electronics, embedded systems, and instrumentation, providing technical guidance and strategic direction across projects and functional teams.
  • Lead the architecture, development, and integration of complex systems, taking ownership of technical decisions, risk management, and project outcomes.
  • Drive technology innovation, intellectual property generation, and translational research activities, supporting technology transfer, licensing, industry adoption, and capability development initiatives.

[What we are looking for]

  • Relevant qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant industry experience in circuit design, PCB design and fabrication, and embedded systems programming is essential.
  • Experience in firmware development, hardware-software integration, and system integration will be advantageous.
  • At least 5 years of relevant industry or R&D experience, with demonstrated hands-on expertise in electronics development and a proven track record of leading and delivering industry or research projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in grant proposal writing and the management of funded R&D projects will be an advantage.
  • Experience in healthcare engineering, medical devices, sensors, instrumentation, or other applied technology development domains will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research outcomes into practical applications, prototypes, or commercialisable solutions is desirable.
