Description
Turn Data Into Solutions. Prove the Value. Shape What Comes Next.
At Valet Living, the Sales Engineer, Expanded Waste Services is the technical partner who turns waste data, site conditions, and client needs into practical solutions that properties can execute.
Reporting to the Vice President, Expanded Waste Services, you’ll partner with field sales and work directly with clients to lead the technical conversation. You’ll translate waste bill audits and site analyses into property- and portfolio-level recommendations, prove the savings, and give sellers the tools and language to present each solution confidently.
This is a highly cross-functional role for someone who is comfortable moving between customer conversations, site walks, cost models, technology, and operational details. You’ll work closely with Operations, Commercial Operations, Pricing, IT, and Product while bringing emerging customer needs back into the offering, so Valet Living stays ahead of the market.
Compensation & Work Environment Details:
Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000
Bonus: 10%
Work environment: Remote
Travel: Up to 50%
What You’ll Do
- Lead the Technical Conversation: Join customer calls, site walks, and presentations to explain Valet Living’s service model and technology in clear, credible terms.
- Turn Audits Into Actionable Solutions: Translate waste bill audits and hauler invoice analyses into property-level recommendations covering container count and size, haul frequency, compaction, and recycling streams.
- Design for Real-World Site Conditions: Build property- and portfolio-level waste stream solutions that account for chute configuration, compactor access, enclosure space, truck maneuverability, and municipal or franchise hauling requirements.
- Connect Technology to Client Outcomes: Own the technical narrative for iValet and the broader Valet Living technology stack, including data capture, reporting, dashboards, and service verification.
- Validate Operational Feasibility: Partner with Operations to confirm labor, routing, equipment, and site logistics before recommendations reach the customer.
- Build and Defend the Savings Case: Work with Pricing and Commercial Operations to model client savings, validate pricing against established guardrails, and support company margin and profitability targets.
- Support Complex Proposals: Lead the technical portions of RFPs, RFIs, and formal proposals, including specifications, scope of work, assumptions, and supporting exhibits.
- Run Discovery and Establish Baselines: Work with property teams, regional managers, and asset managers to document the current waste program, quantify inefficiency, and establish a defensible baseline.
- Support Pilots and Measure Results: Help design pilots and conduct post-implementation reviews that compare actual results with modeled savings and feed lessons back into pricing, operations, and product.
- Coach the Sales Team: Train sellers to handle routine technical discussions independently so Sales Engineer support can remain focused on complex and strategic pursuits.
- Ensure a Strong Handoff: Serve as the technical bridge to Solutions Implementation and Field Operations so what was sold is what gets installed and serviced.
- Shape the Future Offering: Identify emerging needs such as sustainability reporting, diversion targets, compliance requirements, and new technology requests, then translate them into roadmap input for Product, Operations, and EWS leadership.
- Support Enterprise Growth: Standardize recommendations across national and multi-site portfolios while accounting for market-level hauling and regulatory differences.
- Represent Valet Living: Build credibility with customer executives, owners, property leaders, and industry audiences.
What We’re Looking For
- Relevant Experience: 5+ years in sales engineering, solutions consulting, technical account management, or a technical or operational role supporting a B2B sales team.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to explain technology, data, and reporting to non-technical audiences without oversimplifying.
- Waste or Operations Knowledge: Experience in waste, environmental services, facilities services, or another operations-intensive industry is strongly preferred. Candidates with experience quickly learning and supporting complex technical services will also be considered.
- Analytical Confidence: Skill working with invoices, spreadsheets, and cost models, with the ability to build and defend a savings case in front of a customer.
- Consultative Approach: Strong discovery skills with the ability to identify unstated needs and translate them into practical solutions.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Operations, Finance, Commercial Revenue Operations, Pricing, IT, and Product.
- Executive Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate credibly at all levels.
- Hands-On Mindset: Willingness to get into the details, including site walks, container counts, route logic, and service schedules.
- Organization and Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple active pursuits on competing timelines and thrive in an ambiguous, test-and-learn environment.
- Technology Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms such as Salesforce. Familiarity with reporting and analytics tools is preferred.
- Complex Deal Experience: Experience supporting multi-site or portfolio-level opportunities is preferred. Multifamily industry experience is also preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Travel Readiness: Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to travel up to 50%.
