Fabrication Technician

As a Fabrication Technician, you will play a hands-on role in building, assembling, and finishing structures, props, sets, and branded environments. You will work in the shop and onsite, collaborating with designers, production teams, and installation crews to ensure high-quality, durable, and visually compelling builds.Key ResponsibilitiesInterpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, renderings, and shop drawings to fabricate components accurately.Build and assemble structural elements, scenic pieces, furniture, props, and display systems using a variety of materials (wood, metal, plastics, composites, fabric, etc.).Use hand tools, power tools, woodworking equipment (saws, drills, routers), welding gear, and finishing tools safely and effectively.Coordinate with the design and production teams to refine construction details and suggest improvements for structural integrity and visual quality.Perform finishing work including sanding, painting, staining, laminating, and applying surface treatments to fabricated elements.Assist in the prototyping process, creating mock-ups or samples as required.Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and propose practical, cost-effective solutions.Prepare and package components for transport to event sites, ensuring protection and organization for safe delivery.Support onsite build-in and de-rig crews during installation and breakdown of experiential activations.Maintain the shop and fabrication space: clean work areas, organize tools and materials, and ensure proper storage of supplies.Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and machinery; report any maintenance issues immediately.Follow safety best practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to company safety protocols.Track material usage and communicate inventory needs to production managers and procurement.Assist with quality control: inspect finished work for structural soundness, aesthetics, and accuracy.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or vocational training in carpentry, welding, fabrication, or related field strongly preferred.2+ years of fabrication experience, ideally in theater, scenic construction, experiential production, or related industries.Skilled with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment; experience with woodworking, metalworking, and finishing.Basic welding or metal‑fabrication experience is a plus.Strong reading comprehension of blueprints, drawings, and technical instructions.Excellent attention to detail, precision, and craftsmanship.Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing design requirements.Ability to lift heavy materials and carry out physically demanding tasks (e.g., climbing, bending, working at heights).Good communication and collaboration skills — ability to coordinate with designers, project managers, and installation crews.Reliable, organized, and able to manage time effectively in a fast-paced workshop environment.Willingness to travel for onsite installation builds, and work extended hours, including nights or weekends, as required.Commitment to safety and prior experience following safety protocols in a fabrication or workshop setting.Work Environment & ConditionsSplit between a shop environment (fabrication facility) and onsite installation locations.Exposure to tools, machinery, dust, noise, and workshop conditions.Requires use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.Physical demands include lifting, standing for long periods, working at heights, and handling large assemblies.Flexible schedule may be required depending on production timelines, with potential for overtime, weekends, and travel.Why Work at BMF?Be part of a creative team that builds real, tangible brand experiences.Work on a variety of projects, including large scope activations, art installations, and experiential sets.Grow your skills in fabrication, finishing, and technical construction.Collaborate with designers, producers, and event professionals in a culture that values craftsmanship and innovation.Potential for career advancement into lead technician, shop supervisor, or fabrication management roles.
