Description
Founded in Switzerland in 1968, Zühlke is owned by its partners and located across Europe and Asia. We are a global transformation partner, with engineering and innovation in our DNA. We're trusted to help clients envision and build their businesses for the future – to run smarter today while adapting for tomorrow’s markets, customers, and communities. Our multidisciplinary teams specialise in tech strategy and business innovation, digital solutions and applications, and device and systems engineering. We excel in complex, regulated spaces including health and finance, connecting strategy, tech implementation, and operational services to help clients become more effective, resilient businesses.
If you share our values and want to do the best work, for the right reasons, we can offer you the chance to do it on a global scale and play a real role in shaping our exciting journey.
You'll join a growing practice that runs application support and operations across 20+ clients, covering Java, .NET, Python, and TypeScript/Node.js stacks. Your primary assignment will be two Java applications for a Swiss federal regulatory authority, but you'll also contribute to other engagements as the team and portfolio evolve.
We're building an AI-first operations model. That means we actively use AI tooling (coding assistants, automated log analysis, AI-assisted incident triage) in daily work, and we expect you to push that boundary further. If you're the kind of engineer who builds scripts and automations to eliminate repetitive work, and who reaches for AI tools before doing things manually, you'll fit right in.
Your first assignment involves two Java applications with very different stacks: one modern cloud-native system on Java 25 / Spring Boot 4, one legacy Java EE monolith in maintenance mode. Over time, you may rotate into Python, .NET, or TypeScript/Node.js engagements depending on team needs and your profile.
This is not greenfield development, but it's not just keeping the lights on either.
Beyond day-to-day support, these engagements include product evolution: new features, regulatory adaptations, and system improvements driven by real user needs. You'll have the opportunity to shape how applications grow, not only how they run. If you want impact beyond the run phase, this is where you get it.
What You'll Do
- Investigate and resolve L3 incidents (root cause analysis, fixes, regression testing)
- Apply security patches and manage CVE remediation
- Coordinate releases with infrastructure partners and the client
- Maintain and extend automated test suites
- Document operational procedures and runbooks
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Build domain knowledge in client-specific business domains
- Use AI tools actively in your workflow: code generation, log analysis, incident triage, test creation, documentation
- Identify and implement automation opportunities that reduce manual operational effort
- Contribute to building our AI-assisted operations model
What We're Looking For
Must have:
- 3+ years of professional Java development (any version from 8 to 25)
- Experience with at least one of: Spring Boot or Java EE / Jakarta EE
- Relational database experience (PostgreSQL or Oracle)
- Comfortable reading and maintaining code you didn't write
- Experience working in application support, maintenance, or operations (not just greenfield)
- Active use of AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) in your daily work
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good written English. German is a significant plus for client communication, but not a requirement.
Strong plus:
- Second language: Python, C#/.NET, or TypeScript/Node.js (you may rotate into projects on these stacks)
- Spring Boot 3+ or 4 (dependency injection, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, scheduled tasks)
- PostgreSQL with JSONB or non-relational data patterns
- Java EE / WebLogic administration and deployment
- Oracle database (PL/SQL, DB scripts, change-controlled procedures)
- Observability and monitoring experience (setting up logging, alerting, dashboards, defining SLIs/SLOs)
- CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar)
- Container orchestration (Kubernetes/AKS, Helm, Istio)
- Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform)
- Frontend experience (Vue.js, React, or Angular) for full-stack delivery
- Experience in regulated industries (pharma, medtech, public sector, finance)
- DDD, onion/hexagonal architecture, OpenAPI-first design
- Experience building automations, scripts, or bots that reduce manual ops work
- Familiarity with AI/ML APIs, LLM integration, or building AI-assisted workflows
What We Offer
- Long-term, stable engagement across a portfolio of Swiss clients
- Work on systems that directly impact public health, insurance, and infrastructure in Switzerland
- Small team with high autonomy
- AI-first culture: we invest in AI tooling and expect you to shape how we use it
- Rotation opportunities across Java, Python, and .NET engagements
- Structured knowledge transfer and domain training during onboarding
If you feel you don't meet all the requirements, we are still happy to get to know you, learn more about your ambitions and ideas and look forward to receiving your application!
We welcome people from all backgrounds, regardless of their gender, personality, national origin, race, religion, colour, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, disability or veteran status.
